Cottages in Alnwick

Our self-catering cottages in Alnwick will put you in prime location to discover Northumberland. Inland from Northumbria’s coastline and in the heartland of its countryside, Alnwick is a medieval market town known for its cobbled streets and original stone buildings. Alnwick is often a hit with families, couples, and larger groups alike as it is a truly lovely place to stay, with plenty of pubs and local businesses (including a delightful chocolate shop) to discover.

Pear Tree Cottage is a gorgeous, compact, stone cottage with modern interiors, and a spacious green garden complete with outdoor dining space. With a wood-burner, plush sofas and Sky TV, Pear Tree Cottage offers you ultimate comfort on your Northumberland holiday.

Our other Alnwick holiday cottage, Vale View, is a larger property that sleeps up to 11 guests. Located in Alnwick’s neighbouring village, Galton, Vale View covers the entirety of the first floor of the village pub. Stylish, comfortable, and complete with soundproofing to ensure you are undisturbed by the pub’s visitors, this is a truly unique property and a great place to get a large family, or a larger group of friends together for some time away.

Things to do Near Alnwick

Alnwick and the local area most certainly fits the brief ‘fun for all the family’. There are plenty of local walking routes in and around the village, including Hulne Park, the Lesbury Trail, and Waterside Trail which guides you along the edges of the River Aln. As Alnwick is a central part of Northumberland, it may be worth looking at our dog-friendly cottages nearby so you can bring your four-legged friends along on these picturesque rambles with you.

Alnwick Castle is undoubtedly the area’s most famous landmark and is just one of many Northumbrian castles that are dotted across this historic region. The castle was once home to the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland, and then the Percy family, which it belonged to for over 700 years. In more recent years, the castle has been a popular Film and TV set location and has appeared in blockbusters like the Harry Potter franchise and Downton Abbey. ‘Potterheads’ are frequent visitors, so if you are one of them, you might want to check out Alnwick Castle’s broomstick lessons!

An equally magical place in Alnwick is Barter Books, one of Europe’s largest second-hand bookshops. This pet-friendly bookshop is complete with open fires, coffee bars and an ice cream parlour, and its quirkiness is evident from the little model railway track that runs over the tops of its endless bookshelves. Barter Books is most certainly a bookworm’s paradise and has to be added to your Alnwick bucket list.

There are so many things to do, and places to see in Alnwick.
