And don’t forget, you'e not far from cosmopolitan Manchester’s Old Trafford centre for some serious retail therapy.
Back to nature and the Pennine Way offers experienced walkers a real challenge, whether you walk the whole 270 miles or just part of it. Pendle Hill, famous for the witch trials of the 17th Century, is still popular with ghost hunters, walkers and paragliders.
The Ribble Valley is a must to explore by bicycle, with lanes for gentle cycling and off-road tracks for mountain bikers. There are plenty of paths for walkers, and quaint towns like Clitheroe and Skipton (over the border) to rest and quench your thirst, or the Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (A.O.N.B) and perfect for getting away from modern day life whether it’s walking or cycling. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars as it's a great spot for bird watching too.
Lancashire is a county rich in outdoor activities, perfect for a large group or family holiday, with pursuits to suit all ages. For a relaxing afternoon, enjoy the view from Ashton Monument in Lancaster or head to Morecambe Bay and sample some of their famous cockles. You can also take a guided walk over the mud flats but be sure not to venture out across the flats without a guide! For those that find high octane activities relaxing, why not have a go at kitesurfing or powered paragliding? Finally, and certainly not least, a trip to Blackpool with its famous Tower is quite the spectacle and must be seen, at least once! The Blackpool Illuminations are also something not to be missed.
