Easter in The Lake District

With lots to see and do in the Lake District why not bring your family on a self catering holiday for Easter?

Whether you're looking for a Lake District holiday cottage for all the family or a smaller property for two, we can help you find a Cottage to enjoy this Easter. Lots of our holiday cottages have gardens which are great for Easter egg hunts. You can also be sure that the kitchens in our holiday cottages are well equipped, so you can plan a family lunch in your holiday cottage on Easter Sunday and enjoy some quality time together.

Traditionally Easter used to mark the start of the visitor season in the Lake District. Although holiday makes now visit all times of year you can understand why this time of year with its crisp blue-sky days, spring flowers and snow-capped peaks is very attractive and draws people to the great outdoors.

In the past children in Cumbria were given a Pashce or ‘Pace’ egg at Easter which was hard boiled with onions skins and flower heads to make patterns on the shell. The children used to race the eggs down hills on Easter Monday. There is still plenty of egg-citement these days with Easter egg hunts at the many National Trust properties in the area and various crafts and outdoor activities being organised.

National Trust property Wray Castle hosts Easter egg hunts over Easter weekend, so you can explore the woodland and enjoy the lake views, and after following the clues you’ll be rewarded with a chocolate bunny.

When visiting the Lake District this Easter you should also look out for the Herdwick lambs, they are born with black fleeces and have very cute faces. The Herdwick sheep is well recognised in the Lake District National Park and we often find the adult sheep roaming around our local office in Elterwater!

Come and spend Easter with us in the Lake District!
