Applethwaite Hall, formerly known as The Common is a 27-room former gentleman’s residence in the foothills of Banner Rigg, a fell overlooking Windermere in the English Lake District.
Thomas Muirhead the man behind the famous pavilions at 2 English cricket test grounds the Kennington Oval (completed in 1898) and Old Trafford (completed 1895) designed The Common shortly after the completion of the grounds. It was built unusually for the lake district in rendered red brick between 1898 and 1901 for a mysterious Frank A Roberts, about whom little is known.
Fab cottage, super clean and very well equipped with some lovely little thoughtful touches, including the welcome treat thank you! Would definitely recommend and be back
Perfect for a family holiday. Bam Lodge is beautiful and very well equipped! Hot tub was perfect after a days walking and exploring the beautiful Lake District. We will be back again.
Second visit to Bam Lodge and again it didn't disappoint. We had a great stay! We have now been here in the spring and autumn and the weather was exactly the same!
Thank you for the most wonderful stay! Every little detail has been thought about and we cannot wait to come back. The weather has been amazing, we cannot recommend this lodge enough! P.S the surround speakers are 10/10
For the price I would have expected dish cloths, washing up liquid, bath towels, robes for the hot tub, tea, coffee, fresh milk, sugar and locally sourced biscuits
The property was excellent and well positioned to explore the area, the hot tub was a welcome bonus after a long day out.
We really liked the property and the location. Our only issues were it stated towels would be provided but we only got 1 each for a 6 night stay for bathroom and hot tub use which wasn’t good. We would liked to have had a few towels each, at least for the week. We also would have found a second set of keys useful, the property manual stated we would be left 2 sets but we were only left 1. The hot tub also wasn’t ready to use on the check in day which we would have liked to have known in advance.
Due to the care & attention from the company which was a plus point for us. You don't get that from many companies these days & that is the reason we would recommend you to our friends & family.
Had a lovely break at Bam Lodge. Was a bit cold on arrival heating could have done with being switched on a few hours before arrival. Heating is quite noisy when trying to sleep in the master room. Master bed was a bit hard (personal preference) Over all a fantastic place to stay due to being fully dog friendly. The place was impeccably clean on arrival. Did have a few little issues finding the place, even when parked by the bin shed we asked a lady who was there did she know of Bam Lodge and she hadn’t heard of it. We were really glad you gave us the cleaners number and she explained exactly where it was.
One of the best dog friendly lodges we have stayed in. Every finite detail has been thought of. Our only comments which would be more of an improvement rather than things that were missing was: 1 - The outside tap which has a hosepipe attached would be great if this was a hot / cold dog washing station. 2 - not sure if these were missing or were available pre-covid but bath robes would be a great addition with the hot tub. 3 - 2 towels per person seemed a bit light gives the use of the hot tub and a 7 day stay. As stated although these would be great improvements for the stay they certainly would not stop us booking Bam Lodge again. The original cottages team were great at responding to any concerns or queries and the owners have done an exceptional job with this property.
Very clean and well presented property. Great location! Only feedback was the sofa size. Would of wanted something a little bigger for everyone to get on comfortably.
A quality property in a fantastic location
Bam Lodge was a beautiful cottage and immaculate inside. Plenty of information inside the guest book. Would certainly return.
Amazing cottage and everything was thought out . Beautiful location.
overall very satisfied. Very clean, well equipped and a lovely location.
Cottage was lovely, home from home. Spacious, clean, lovely comfy beds and well equipped. Constuctive criticism would be that there was not enough hot water at all! No one could have a bath. Two showers and we struggled to have water hot enough to wash up! Did not like the fact that the heating was remotely controlled by the owners!! Never encountered this in any other cottage and would be a cause for concern in future!
The property was well maintained, spotlessly clean, perfect location. Just wonderful
We have used this site on a number of different occasions and properties and they have always been to a very good standard. We have just booked another trip so hope that this trend continues
Excellent cottage . Beautiful comfy and nice area . Clean to a high standard
Perfect get away with the dog! Cleanliness of this property was amazing. The garden was enclosed and the hot tub an amazing touch! We cannot wait to stay again
We had a fantastic stay in Bam Lodge. Perfect location and they really thought about everything. Will be back for sure - thank you!
Location of Bam Lodge was ideal for exploring the Lakes and we found it to be a home away from home. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay with the peace and quiet you get, the use of the hot tub and overall feel of the property itself. We hope to be able to book again soon.
Lovely accommodation, everything you need and lovely Hot Tub after a full day walking. Both Windermere and Bowness are lovely places to visit. We also liked the Ferry across to Ambleside, turn left as you get off the Ferry and follow signs to Sowrey. There is a pub called Cuckoo Brow, lovely place to stop for a drink and food. Thank you for a lovely stay and our thoughtful gift.
Fab cottage, super clean and well equipped with some lovely thoughtful touches, including the welcome treat! Would definitely recommend and come back.
Would definitely stay again. Clean, tidy and very spacious. Dogs loved the area and the walk. Very nice cottage and well worth the money.
Fab accommodation, got everything you need. Lovely location. Recommend Sunday lunch at Beresfords pub.
Bam lodge is a top class lodge to stay in,immaculately clean, everything you could need has been thought of
We had a great week at Bam Lodge. Very well equipped and dog friendly. Windermere is within walking distance, and there are several good dog walks straight from the apartment. The hot tub is an added bonus after a long walk.
Bam Lodge was a gem of a find and can't fault in any way. The standard of accommodation and cleanliness is top notch plus the hot tub was a bonus to enjoy at the end of the day. The gardens and little woodland walk is perfect to take the dog on an early morning snuffle before the day begins. The owners of Bam Lodge have created an amazing space and we look forward to returning soon.
