Description

Braegarth occupies an elevated and enviable position above Elterwater Common with a backdrop of the Langdale Pikes, it's probably one of the most photographed views of the National Park. On the outskirts of the village with a sunny south facing aspect and open views surrounded by beautiful Lakeland garden. Close to the local pub The Britannia Inn and the Co-op store in Chapel Stile. Complimentary membership passes for the luxurious Langdale Hotel & Spa is included for up to 4 people during your stay. Facilities include an indoor swimming pool, gym, hot tub, sauna, steam room - the perfect space to unwind and relax after a day out walking. Bike rental is also available from The Langdale Hotel & Spa, along with tennis courts and exercise classes.

A traditional stone built Lakeland cottage which has been tastefully extended to create a spacious, well planned and comfortable 3 bedroom detached house. All the rooms have spectacular views towards the garden or over the common towards the Langdale fells. The garden extends over roughly two acres and encompasses a stream, waterfall, rockery and lots of mature shrubs and plants including colourful rhododendrons and azaleas. The cottage is double fronted and benefits from a substantial porch with flagged floor and pine bench seat.

The porch leads into the living and dining room area, separated with a hand built central oak dresser, designed and crafted by local cabinet maker Philip Bowness. Oak table and chairs for 6 are to the right and 2 sofas and chairs are to the left. Living room facilities include flat screen TV, DVD player and MP3 player. The living room benefits from multifuel stove and fossil granite fire surround and both areas have good views over the Common.

The good quality fitted kitchen has units to three sides, Italian limestone flagstone floor, Corian worktops, dishwasher, oven and hob. Access from the kitchen into the garden room with it's own dining table and chairs, which takes in delightful views of the garden. Just off the kitchen is a laundry room, with fitted units, washer and separate tumble dryer. Before the laundry room there is a downstairs cloakroom with WC. Opposite the laundry room is an internal door leading to an integral garage, now permanently converted into a games room with full size table tennis table. Great for the kids and the occasional rainy day.

On the first floor a large landing area leads to the triple aspect master bedroom featuring a super-king bed, built in wardrobes, beautiful views and ensuite bathroom with bath, shower and WC. The second bedroom has dual aspect and lovely views, twin beds and fitted wardrobes. The third bedroom has fitted wardrobes and a single bed leaving plenty of space to stretch out. The separate family shower room can also be found on this floor.

Outside the property, a lawned garden extends over about 2 acres and includes a stream, a waterfall, a small summerhouse, a patio area and a BBQ for al fresco dining in fine weather. The front of the property is approached by a private gated driveway with plenty of parking for 3 cars.

N.B. Due to the nature of the gardens, stream and shallow pond area, children of all ages should be closely supervised at all times.

Reviews

Beautiful cottage set in a stunning location . Ideal location for visiting the Lakes Village of Elterwater very pretty

Mr B,

Braegarth is a truly beautiful house in an idyllic setting. The large garden is heavenly. The house was spotlessly clean, with comfortable furnishings and beds. Direct access to so many interesting walks & hikes. Easy to walk into Elterwater village, to the hotel facilities and to the shop & pub in Chapel Stile along the river (avoiding the road) We would love to stay here again.

Mrs B,

Most importantly, the location is in the heart of the Lake District and so perfectly placed for walking from the front door. Therefore the outlook is beautiful to the front (the rear is garden sloping up / trees). It has a massive garden to explore, but it's mostly on a slope; once the gardener arrived, we didn't see him again all day. There is a place to eat 'next door' about 30 seconds walk, which do cocktails and takeaways as well as eat in, and we did not get any noise from that all week whatsoever. We made good use of the complimentary swimming pool / spa facilities membership every day at the hotel less than 2 minutes drive down the road, but although walkable, it's really only safe to drive with children as the road is narrow and there is no pavement.

Mr G,

A wonderful house in a fantastic location, our 3rd or 4th visit and always love it.

Mrs L,

Another excellent visit to braegarth. Wonderful views, wonderful garden, great house and brilliant time had. Right in the middle of our favourite area, just lovely and having the table tennis table and swimming pool passes was great for us with the kids on the really rainy day. Hide and seek in that wonderful garden was another win. Great stay again thank you

Mr K,

Our second stay here and as before the accommodation and location were perfect.

Mr R,

Braegarth is very welcoming and cosy house with marvellous views and a set in an attractive garden. Great fun to be had for adventurous children. It is furnished and equipped to a very high standard and spotlessly clean. A choice of many walks, both easy and challenging, direct from the door, . Once parked up you really do not need to use your car again, with a local shop and several good restaurants, cafes and pubs within a few minutes walk from the house. I would certainly recommend Braegarth to anyone looking for a memorable stay in the Langdale valley.

Mr S,

A luxury cottage with glorious views.

Mr K,

A real gem of a cottage. So much to do without even getting in your car. Beautiful walks, friendly pub, village shop and cafe. If you enjoy nature this is for you.

Mrs H,

We had an amazing stay at Braegarth. The gardens were beautiful and well tended. We enjoyed spending time in them exploring or taking in the views and wildlife. Having two streams and a waterfall in the garden was a first for us! The house is spacious and well equipped with lovely views from all of the windows. With comfortable beds and modern bathrooms, Braegarth is everything you need for a relaxing stay in this stunning part of the Lake District. We also enjoyed the free membership for the pool and gym at the local Langdale hotel, The chilled cava was a welcome treat on our arrival too, thanks again for a great week!

Mrs T,

Great location for walking straight from the house, beautiful large garden, walking distance to a couple of pubs and a bar, comfortable beds and a well equipped house. Very much enjoyed our stay.

Mrs W,

This was the second time we have stayed at Braegarth and we cannot recommend it enough, just perfect.
