4 Swiss Villas is in a superb location very close to the centre of Ambleside. It’s just off the main street on the lane leading down to Rothay Park, a fantastic play park for children, and St Mary’s Church. The house itself was built in 1906 and occupied by the builder and his family, his daughter remaining in the property until 1975 when a family bought it to use as a holiday home. In 2005 they extended the property to make plenty of space for 6 to spread out. After many years of fabulous holidays in the house the family decided to sell the property to the new owners who had been using the house for nearly 24 years for some of their holidays. A number of alterations have begun in 2019 to make the house even more like a home from home.
The front is set in an elevated position up a short flight of outside steps (well-lit when it goes dark!). The front door leads into a long hallway with main staircase and the kitchen dining area through to your left. The kitchen diner is over 20ft long and has an original feature fireplace and Lakeland stone floor throughout. At one end a charming, rustic dining table and chairs for 6 people and large bay window with seating to enjoy the view over the fells and town. The kitchen has all mod cons including dishwasher, fridge-freezer, microwave, slow cooker, oven and hob and an abundance of crockery and kitchen equipment to suit requirements. The kitchen area leads through into the boot room, shower room, cellar and the back door. The boot room has plenty of space for muddy boots and to hang coats, you can also access the patio area from here via the back door.
The cellar has plenty of space for storing bikes and holiday equipment. When the extension was built the owners added a downstairs shower room with toilet and sink which is just off the boot room. Please note there is no washing machine at 4 Swiss Villas but there is a local laundrette in Ambleside which is about 500 yards away.
The lounge has a gas operated cast iron stove that looks very much like a log fire but without all the mess and hassle of getting logs and cleaning it out! Perfect for those cold winter nights. There’s seating for six, plenty of books and games are there for your use, along with a large smart TV.
Upstairs the house has 3 bedrooms and a newly refurbished main bathroom with bath/shower, sink and toilet. On the first floor is a twin bedroom overlooking the rooftops of Millans Park and the large master bedroom with queen size zip link bed and great views over the rooftops of the village towards Wansfell beyond. On the top floor is another large bedroom with a king size bed and views towards the fells.
The house benefits from a large patio that goes front to back, this is mostly paved and gravelled. A picnic table is provided on the side patio and a bench at the front to enjoy the view and watch the world go by.
4 Swiss Villas has a rear gate which leads out along a communal path to Millans Park offering level access to the property. Guests can then come and go using the back door of the property which leads straight into the boot room.
A parking permit allows residents to park 1 car in Vicarage Road and Millans Park.
The cottage is in a superb location for enjoying all Ambleside has to offer. You are 50 yards from Zeffirelli’s Cinema and Restaurant, numerous wine bars, restaurants (Matthews is a particular favourite of the owners) and pubs are all close by. Rothay Park is just a few hundred yards away with large grassed areas and children's play park.
We want our holiday cottages to be a 'home from home'. All the beds are made up ready for you, hand towels and bath sheets are included so no need to bring those, shower mats are also provided. Two tea towels and a set of oven gloves/oven cloth will be in the kitchen along with a starter pack that includes: washing up liquid, kitchen roll, toilet roll, basic cleaning products, a bin bag in each bin and a few dishwasher tabs. This is just to 'start you off'; you will need to buy your own once these have run out.

Fantastic, spacious cottage in a great location. We had everything we needed to meet all the families needs from the local park, mini golf, shopping, eating and drinking or an ideal spot to set off for a walk. We will definitely return!
4, Swiss Villas is in a very central location, with quick and easy access to the many high-quality restaurants of Ambleside, shops and park. The rooms were good sizes and there was plenty of room for us all as a family, and our dog. We enjoyed sitting outside on the bench, enjoying the views of the surrounding fells and watching the world go by. The decor is a bit tired in parts but the spacious sized rooms and central location outweighed this in our view. We had a wonderful week, made even better by stunning sunshine.
Great location - really close to the wonderful playground and level access made it easy with a pushchair. The utility area was perfect for storing all of our wet and muddy gear. Lovely little outside space to enjoy the summer evenings and inside was not at all cramped like some properties can feel.
Fabulous location, all of Ambleside right on your doorstep and lovely sunny outside seating to watch the world go by. Parking outside was never an issue with the permit provided. House had everything you could possibly need and was very comfortable. My only comment is to watch the head height as you walk upstairs if you are over 6ft!
