Holiday Cottages in Cambridgeshire

Cambridgeshire, the flatlands of mystery and huge skies, punctuated with the dreaming spires of Ely Cathedral and the beautiful city of Cambridge with its famous colleges.

Cambridgeshire is unique not only in East Anglia but in the UK as a whole with its dramatic landscapes drained by Flemish engineers in the seventeenth century. This rural county is populated with villages and farms and one of the most famous University cities in the country, Cambridge, with its ancient academic heritage.

Atmospheric, distinct and spacious, Cambridgeshire is a peaceful, pastoral county with large swathes of open farmland bisected with rivers and waterways. The City of Cambridge is a ‘must see’ destination with its 31 Colleges all set around the River Cam which flows through the middle of the town. Architecture and history abound and there is a sense of the exotic in this vibrant and exciting location. No trip to Cambridge would be complete without a journey down the river on a punt followed by a meal at one of the many fabulous waterside pubs and restaurants.

Fourteen miles north of Cambridge lies Ely with its famous Cathedral known as ‘the Ship of the Fens’. Another waterside city, pretty shops and eateries cluster on the hill which takes you from the river up to the Cathedral, a truly awe inspiring and historic sight, with the Stained Glass Museum well worth a visit. Thirteen miles to the south-east of Cambridge is Newmarket, the heart of British horseracing. The town is surrounded by immaculate heathland and gallops and an early morning visit will present the opportunity to see the strings of racehorses making their way out for exercise.
