Cottages in Wareham

North of both Swanage and Arne you will find the beautiful market town of Wareham. The town is ideally situated for you to explore Purbeck, and is known by the locals as the Gateway to Purbeck.

The town has gained this name, due to several walking and cycling routes starting in the town, which then begin their journey south towards Swanage.

What Can I do in Wareham?

In Wareham you will find plenty to keep you busy, I have visited the farmers markets in the town on several occasions and its reputation as one of the best markets for local produce is certainly true. They usually run on every second and fourth Thursday of the month from around 9am until 1pm.

Wareham Town Museum is also a popular attraction in the town. The museum details the journey of Wareham from its prehistoric times, right up until today. Nearby you will also be able to enjoy Monkey World, which is always a favourite with the kids. It is an ape rescue centre set up to help raise money to stop the smuggling of primates.

What’s Nearby Wareham?

Wareham is ideally positioned to enjoy the region of Purbeck, and neighbouring Poole. Or if you are looking to head slightly further away Weymouth and Bournemouth are both accessible within 40 minutes. If you are looking to head south then Swanage is roughly 10 miles, and about 20 minutes in the car from Wareham, and is certainly worth visiting for a taste of the Dorset coastline. Poole is a larger coastal town than Swanage and is roughly a 20 minute drive.
