Wyvern cottage is the perfect retreat for your holiday in the ‘quintessential’ seaside town of Swanage. Located in the historic quarter of Swanage with the old mill pond opposite and parish church nearby, Wyvern cottage provides guests the classic cottage setting for a short spring break, lazy summer holiday or even a cosy retreat for that Winter ‘getaway’.  This Grade 2 listed cottage oozes history and quality inside and out, with a tastefully styled interior it blends the traditional with the contemporary. You will find every room beautifully appointed with attention to detail and a superior level of comfort.

Entering into the cottage via the arched passageway from Church Hill, a comfortable ambience of the kitchen diner greets you immediately.  The modern kitchen is tastefully designed and equipped with all the contemporary appliances you will need including an Electric hob & oven, microwave, undercounter fridge, dishwasher and coffee machine. An extendable dining table and seating for six stands adjacent to the kitchen work area.  A utility room off the kitchen provides a further useful workspace with a second sink/drainer and washing machine. Additionally, the cloakroom provides a downstairs toilet and washbasin ground floor facility. Whether you're preparing a family meal or just relaxing with a cup of coffee, this room provides a welcoming social hub for your stay.

From the Kitchen, step down into the generously sized lounge. This cosy, tasteful and comfortable family reception room features three large sofas, Smart TV and a real wood burning stove. What better after your day exploring the Jurassic coast than to put your feet up, relax and enjoy a drink in front of a gorgeous roaring fire.

Taking the stairs from the kitchen diner leads to the first-floor landing with two bedrooms and a family bathroom. On this level, the front bedroom contains a super king-sized bed with Hypnos ‘zip and link’ mattress. This sumptuous bed can be selected as a Super King bed or the option to choose it with two single beds.  At the rear, and facing our courtyard garden, a stylish and tastefully designed king size bedroom features a comfortable king size bed and is complimented with its own ensuite shower and vanity unit / washbasin.

Off the landing the family bathroom completes this floor with its full-size bath, in-bath shower, toilet and washbasin.

Climbing a second flight of stairs* from the landing, a cosy and private double bedroom looks out towards the millpond and beyond with views of The Purbeck hills to the West.   * We would bring to your attention that the stairs up to this bedroom are relatively steep and narrow. Elderly or disabled persons with mobility issues may be challenged to access to this room.

The courtyard garden at the rear of Wyvern Cottage is a peaceful space to enjoy breakfast or the late evening sunshine with a sundowner drink. Guests can relax in our own patio courtyard area of the cottage which is surrounded by a mature rockery garden. Seating and a dining table is provided. Depending on the time of day you may hear the occasional toll of the church bells or the shrill whistle of a steam train as it leaves Swanage station, all adding to the quaint charm of this lovely authentic setting.

Wyvern Cottage does not have its own dedicated off-road parking space, you will find safe, unrestricted parking directly opposite or a few minutes’ walk from the cottage. For arrivals and departures unloading and loading of your vehicle can be made directly outside the cottage.

A mere 50m walk up Church Hill from Wyvern Cottage is the convenience store and a popular & cosy pub is perfect for a drink or an evening meal. A ten minute walk takes you into the heart of the town centre and seafront where plenty of interest is to be found in a variety of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. The heritage railway is also located here and provides visitors with services on vintage steam trains to Corfe Castle. The beach embraces Swanage with its the mile long sandy bay, vibrant promenade, historic pier & seafront.  With the beach hosting its own Punch and Judy show, motor boat and pedalo hire there is something for all ages. With so many events staged throughout the year in Swanage there is something for everyone to enjoy. Beyond the town, the South West coast path stretches both East and West for stunning walks towards Old Harry Rocks or Durlston Castle and the old Lighthouse. All in all, there is so much to like and enjoy about this town and the Isle of Purbeck. Come and soak up the atmosphere and history of this seaside gem; welcome to Wyvern Cottage!

The cottage was lovely and well kept - clean, well equipped and comfortable. We appreciated all the information and instructions prepared by the owners. Parking was a bit of an issue - it took a while to find spaces, even in low season but it was possible to park immediately outside to load and unload which was helpful.

A great location, 10 mins walk too the beach and much less to shops and cafes, with a fabulous food pub across the road. A comfy communal lounge, well equipped kitchen and bathroom facilities were good.

Beautiful cottage to stay in. I had a couple of questions which the owner answered quickly and was very helpful with. I booked through original cottages, as I have done for several years. They are so helpful. Lauren in the Swanage office has been extremely helpful to assist with queries.

A lovely property in a superb location. In no way an issue for us but something to be aware of - the stairs are very steep and the parking quite tricky. One night we were unable to find any parking and had to abandon the car returning to it before 8am when parking restrictions began again to drive around in the hope of finding a space.
