Cottages in Galmpton

Our Galmpton Holiday Cottages are perfect for people looking for a quieter spot on the South Devon coast, whilst still being within reach of Torbay and the River Dart. Brixham, Dartmouth, Broadsands and Paignton are all within a short distance of Galmpton, while the village itself offers local amenities and fabulous coastal views. Sleeping two to eight guests, our self-catering Galmpton cottages offer something for everyone, from couple’s retreats to family stays.

Many of our holiday homes in Galmpton are dog-friendly, contributing to our large range of pet-free cottages in South Devon. Not only is the region at large very dog-friendly, but Galmpton itself is too. The walk down to Galmpton Creek is particularly lovely and one that both you and your pooch can enjoy. Starting from Galmpton village, walk down Stoke Gabriel Road until you reach a sign for the creek, which will take you down Kiln Road. The creek is particularly beautiful in the evenings and the sunset over the water makes for a picture-perfect view.

Galmpton is also home to Agatha Christie’s holiday home, Greenway. The author was born in Devon and spent a lot of her life in the Torbay area, but Greenway was particularly special to her and she even wrote that it was ‘the loveliest place in the world’. As Greenway house and gardens is a National Trust site, you can be the judge of that yourself. The house is open to the public on the weekends during the winter months and you can explore the interior, as well as the many landscaped and wooded gardens around the estate. As Greenway is on the River Dart, it is in a prime spot to see some of the best views in Devon. The Greenway Ferry runs between Dartmouth and the Greenway Estate every hour on every day between March and October. Not only is this a great way to see the River Dart in all its glory and learn more about the area, but it is also an excellent way to arrive at Greenway in style.

Brixham is another coastal spot that is close to Galmpton and is one of the best places in Devon to get fresh seafood and fish. As a historic fishing town, life in Brixham still revolves around the fish trade and harbour life. Brixham Fish Restaurant and Takeaway is one of many chippies in Brixham serving up the freshest fish and chips, although the town has plenty of seafood restaurants for you to choose from, all equally delicious. When you’re not filling your boots with tasty treats, head to Churston Cove, a dog-friendly beach and one of the most picturesque shores in South Devon. The walk down to the beach is a little steep, but the views here once you get to the shore are second to none.

We hope you can see why a cottage in Galmpton is the perfect South Devon holiday spot, so go ahead and browse through our collection of fine holiday cottages in the area.
