Budleigh Salterton marks the beginning of the East Devon Jurassic Coast and is one of the most geologically unique villages in Devon. Visiting Budleigh Salterton 

Budleigh Salterton beach is backed up by Triassic Redstone Cliffs and is known by its pebbled shores and beach cafes. Longboat Cafe, West End Kiosk and Fifty Degrees North are all located right on the seafront at Budleigh Salterton and offer up very tempting menus filled with everyone’s favourite seaside treats. The two mile stretch of beach makes for a lovely way to stretch your legs for an afternoon and these lovely eateries are the perfect way to break your stroll up.  

Another great local walk is a ramble through Otterton Point, a local nature reserve and beauty spot. Here you’ll find the mouth of the River Otter, home to the UK’s only beaver colony and a diverse range of birds.  

You can learn more about the history of Budleigh Salterton by paying a visit to the Fairlynch Museum & Arts Centre. This volunteer-run museum is open between April and October and has a fascinating range of local artefacts and artwork, covering everything from the geological history of the Jurassic Coast, to showcasing the life of Sir Walter Raleigh. The centre is a great option for families and has lots of child-friendly interactive elements.
