Our Guide to Visiting Devon with Dogs

Visiting Devon with your pet is a joy with two national parks to explore. Exmoor National Park and Dartmoor National Park both welcome dogs throughout the year, however pets must be kept on leads when near local livestock, as well as during lambing and ground nesting bird season from 1st March through to 31st July.

Dog Friendly Beaches

Devon is home to a wonderful selection of beaches, many of which welcome dogs throughout the year.

Saunton Sands, North Devon

Saunton Sands is a wide golden beach that is ideal for a good lead-free run! The beach is also something of a surfer’s paradise and home to the first ever surf school for dogs – Paws on Boards! Remember, you heard it here first – but why not give it a try?

Beesands Beach, South Devon

This mile-long stretch of coast offers stunning views of the surrounding peninsula, while the local cliffs provide clam waters that are perfect for a cooling paddle.

Hele Bay, North Devon

This quiet little beach set just outside the resort of Ilfracombe is ideal for exploring with its surrounding green hills and rock pools.

The Ness Beach

Accessed via a supposed former smugglers tunnel , Ness Beach is a charming secluded spot that features some truly dramatic red cliffs that slope lazily into the sea.
