Holiday Cottages in Dartmoor

Dartmoor National Park is just one of the many jewels in Devon’s crown, known for its wild ponies, mythical woods, breath taking dark skies and mighty tors, Dartmoor National Park is a magical place just waiting to be explored and our Dartmoor Cottages give you the perfect opportunity to do so.

Our Dartmoor Holiday Cottages are spread across the South Devon countryside, from Totnes and the picturesque town of Ashburton in the south, to further north near Tavistock. Our homes range from intimate little boltholes for two that are perfect for a romantic getaway, to big group properties that sleep up to six guests. We also offer dog-friendly cottages in Dartmoor, so you can bring your dog along to explore this rugged landscape with you.

The delightful village of Ashburton is often called the southern gateway to Dartmoor and is a town steeped in tradition. Not only does Ashburton have an array of coffee shops, pubs, restaurants and independent shops, but they also have a wide range of fabulous local festivals that occur throughout the year. During the summer months, the town hosts the Otters Arts trail, where local Devon artists contribute a unique Otter sculpture along a walking route that runs through the town. There’s also a fantastic Mardi Gras festival on Shrove Tuesday every year, Tinners Moon Arts Festival during the last week of May, a Food Festival on the second Saturday of September, Ashburton Carnival in late June and many, many more. As you can see, Ashburton is a vibrant town with plenty going on, made perfect by the amazing natural landscape that surrounds it.

Our Dartmoor Holiday Cottages further north in the park are near Tavistock, an old stannary town that dates back to the 10th century. Home of the world-famous Devon Cream Tea, Tavistock is quintessentially Devonshire and welcomes you with open arms. Tavistock is also home to another world-famous landmark, its pannier market, which is well worth a visit if you’re enthusiastic about all things local! Close to the Western Moor of Dartmoor National Park, staying close to Tavistock is a great way to delve deep into the National Park.

Naturally, Dartmoor National Park is made for walking and we particularly recommend a walk through Witsman’s Wood and hiking across the Tors. The walk between Great Staple and White Tor is very special, as the six-mile route takes you to what is believed to be an enclosure of neolithic rocks. Aside from walking and reconnecting with nature, Dartmoor has plenty of other attractions, including the ever-popular Dartmoor Zoo, and day trips to Exeter, Plymouth or Totnes.

Dartmoor is such a stunning part of Devon that we hope you come stay with us in one of our self-catering homes in the area, where we guarantee you’ll be wowed by both your surroundings and our lovely holiday cottages.
