From your doorstep, walk or cycle towards Pitmedden Forest, then make for Falkland village (5 miles), where you can pair a visit to the restored Renaissance palace with the waterfalls and woodlands of Maspie Den. Loch Leven (12 miles) is another lovely option for an active day, with waterside trails where you might spot red squirrels and seasonal flocks of migratory geese. If you fancy stretching the day out, continue to St Andrews (22.5 miles) for a beach walk or stop by the Lindores Abbey Distillery (8 miles). Knockhill Racing Circuit offers something livelier within 20 miles.
