A magnificent, stone retreat, this substantial holiday cottage is perfect for that larger group Isle of Wight escape. Sleeping ten people, with the option of two additional guests by prior booking, the character-laden, five-bedroom abode dates back to 1780 and was originally the deer lodge for the estate. Find yourselves surrounded by undulating countryside, 1 mile from Wroxhall and 2.5 miles from Ventnor. Step straight out to explore the historic ruins and landscaped grounds of Appuldurcombe House, as well as the picturesque Appuldurcombe and Stenbury Downs. Head into Ventnor to ponder in fascinating shops, reserve tables in eateries and wander the famous Botanic Garden. Ventnor Beach, 3.5 miles away, is perfect for paddling, swimming and picnicking on summer afternoons. Plan a trip into charming Shanklin, 4 miles away, with its pretty buildings and tea shops. Visit leafy Shanklin Chine, with its scenic gorge walks and waterfalls, while you are here.

Let yourselves into the beautiful house to find accommodation that marries country style and sophistication with original charm. Features, such as flagstone floors and beamed ceilings, have been complemented by a subtle, understated colour scheme and carefully chosen pieces of furniture. From the hall, head through to the boot room, where there is a handy WC, to leave your walking boots or beach gear. Choose whether to make your way through to the lovely lounge or snug for some rest, relaxation and socialising together. There is a TV in both rooms and a wood burner in the lounge. Light this during the chillier months, then congregate on the soft seating to enjoy its warming heat as you chat, play games or watch a film together. The snug features a sofa bed that can be made up for your two extra guests. Make your way through to the farmhouse-style kitchen/diner to prepare hearty English breakfasts and mouth-watering celebratory dinners. Enjoy snacks and fresh coffee from the machine at the table in here. Set the table through in the dining room on more formal occasions. There is also a useful utility room at this level. Your bedrooms and bathrooms are all on the first floor. Wake up to glorious rural views in the four super-king-size bedrooms that all have zip-and-link beds and can therefore be made into twins on request. Two of these have en-suite shower rooms and one has an en-suite bathroom. There is also a bunk bedroom for the youngsters up here, plus a family bathroom and a separate WC.

Your magnificent, mature, private garden is ideal for summer lunches. Play games with the children on the lawn, supervising them carefully at all times because of the proximity of the pond. Guests are also welcome to wander the shared estate. There is parking here for three cars.

Never got tired of the views or the feeling like I was in a royal house. Absolutely loved it.
