Booked 5 nights in the Fishermans Lodge with my two children and our pet dog at relatively short notice, at a not inexpensive cost. A nice modern lodge, set facing a private lake, surrounded by a nice garden with two other neighbouring lodges/villas/houses. Booked at short notice, and I feel that I hadnt fully appreciated that this accommodation iRead mores really integrated into the Wedding Barn venue areas running along Waters Lane as part of the Yorkshire Barns set-up (part of the owners property portfolio) and is really better suited for guests at such parties. My homework could have been much better! Having arrived on a Saturday afternoon, a wedding was in full-flow, however we managed to park on the car park (not quite ample space as stated) and checked-in, bumping into both Millie (Wedding Planner) and Oli (Owners Son) on the car-park. My expectation then was that its a Saturday night and a wedding would be typical at a weekend so lets just chalk Saturday night-off, however I was amazed that most days & nights (i.e. weekdays!) incorporated guest weddings, leading to parties and music running to what my children observed as a 12am or 12.30am curfew. Although the surrounding music and wandering guests provided a bit of social company, it didnt quite gel with the rolling outlook of the tranquil, adjacent Yorkshire Hills. 4 out of 5 nights involved the barn being used for social occasions. This led to constraints on parking, difficulty in finding staff - you are encouraged to enter other folks gatherings and speak to bar staff in your casual clothes! There is actually an office in the Mallard House building, however I didnt find this clearly marked (it could have better signage) and resides in a building full of guests bedrooms for the visitors to the barn. On one occasion whilst I was sat in there, a wedding visitor commented that I was looking lost! On Sundays, the general reception phone number is not available, so you are on your own if you require assistance then. My view is that the cabins and lodges should only be able to be booked as part of an exclusivity package for the Wedding venue / business and related bookings. Otherwise, non-wedding guest occupiers of these cabins are playing second fiddle and are not priority (my experience). Or, there is a clear warning when looking to book the cabin and lodges, that is easily identifiable on-line that these cabins sit next to a Wedding venue with a statistic on the average number of weekly parties in a particular month to help manage expectations your stay is going to be lively! My main sore point however has to be the early morning wake-up calls at the Cabin and the surrounding area. I thought it was a motorbike or diesel type machine noise from a neighbouring farm at around 05.30am each morning prior to sun rise (remember the late nights of music, above!), this was repeated daily, however early one morning, taking our pet dog out into the garden area I discovered the loud motor-noise was actually a member of staff working what appeared to be a Leaf Blower or Confetti Remover near the barn and car park area. The noise was so loud, I was perplexed. How a bride or groom at the wedding venue would put-up with this the morning after their wedding party, I have no idea. Then, at around 07.30 the sit-on lawn mowers start more noise. One morning at 9am I politely challenged a gent about to operate a JCB digger near the Cabin whilst my children were sleeping. He was courteous and agreed to let Nev know he would return early afternoon, so at least some noise was avoided here. Overall, a bit of a mixed experience, a general lack of sleep/rest. I would encourage Weddings are required to book-out all surrounding lodges as part of the overall wedding package, or they are only made available to holidayers when there is no event taking place, and the early morning noises should be stopped and deferred later into the day.
