Property code: OC-W33526

An impressive former barn nestled in rural north-east Lancashire, this stylish retreat offers complete immersion in the magnificent Forest of Bowland. Sleeping four guests, the two-bedroom holiday hideaway nestles with other exclusive properties in the undulating national landscape, with its gritstone fells, deep valleys and peat moorland, near Dunsop Bridge. Pull on your walking boots, pack a picnic into your backpack and step straight out to explore the unique countryside around you. Follow circular walks through the Dunsop Valley or the Trough of Bowland. Take the family to the Bowland Wild Boar Park, 6.5 miles away, with its park rides, indoor and outdoor play areas and wildlife trails. Head 12 miles into the vibrant market town of Clitheroe to stock up on fresh Lancashire produce, dine out in eateries serving local dishes and visit the Norman castle. Here, there are 16 acres to explore, complete with a labyrinth and playground.

Pause to admire the astounding views before stepping inside this splendid barn conversion. At the heart of its beautifully designed accommodation is an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner where you can gather to relax, socialise and spend quality time together between your many excursions. Take turns at playing chef in the kitchen area, with its country cream units. Prepare delicious meals here, then call your nearest and dearest to sit down to dine with you at the table. Lay a fire in the wood burner during the colder months, and settle back onto the comfortable seating to watch the Smart TV, discuss your day or take in the fabulous views. During spring and summer stays, throw open the patio doors to the garden. When eyelids begin to droop and it is time to turn in for the day, you will find one of your bedrooms, a double, is downstairs, together with a handy family shower room. Your second bedroom, a super-king-size, with an en-suite shower room, is on the floor above. This room has zip-and-link beds that can also be made up as two singles if discussed at booking.

Spill out into your peaceful outside space as often as the weather permits. Light the BBQ to cook out in the open air, then turn it into a firepit as the sun starts to set. Unwind as you take in the views over a glass of wine or amble round the wildflower garden. There is private, off-road parking for two cars.

We stayed in Whin Cottage.Lovely clean warm comfy cottage . Furnishings etc are top quality. Beds lovely & comfy too. Plenty of equipment in kitchen but not much storage space for food if you intend to cook & bring lots with you as we did. Freezer is ample though & washing machine & dishwasher were very welcome. Great space outside with sunny aspecRead moret, garden still getting established but looking good on sunny spring day. Lots of wildlife- hares owls pheasants & other birds. Nice riverbank walk to Dunsop village from the cottage. Would benefit from a little more signage along the road so you can prepare to turn into cottage - we drove past & its a fair way before you can turn back. Also be aware there is no mobile signal at all- we liked this tbh but some may not. WhatsApp will work once connected to internet which is fast & reliable. Recommend the High Buck pub in Waddington for drinks food & friendliness. Cottage Owner Mr. Ibison is very friendly & personable but doesnt bother you either! We enjoyed our stay very much & will be back. Hide

Whin at Whitcher Well was a lovely property conversion and a pleasure to stay in for the week. After cold, wet activities outdoors it provided a warm and comfortable retreat at the end of the day. The location is suited to those who enjoy peace, quiet and outdoor activities. A generous and appropriate welcome basket was provided which helped us feeRead morel at home straight away. However, kitchen equipment was sparse so future visitors may need to check before travel should they intend to cook daily. Otherwise, highly recommended. Hide

Highly recommended for those seeking a remote and quiet stays in a recently converted stone barn set in a stunning valley. Two good bedrooms and bathrooms. Very warm and cosy for our winter stay, and walks from the door or lots of options within 30 mins drive.
