Deep in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park is this peaceful three-bedroom retreat, surrounded by sweeping countryside views. With footpaths heading straight from your front door, like the Scar House Reservoir circular (12 miles), it’s a dream for walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers and all groups seeking to get away from it all. You’ll be 2 miles from the charming village of Carlton, home to a welcoming community-owned pub, and within easy reach of several picture-perfect spots, including Leyburn (8 miles), Kettlewell (12 miles), Hawes (18.5 miles), home of Wensleydale cheese and Buckden (18.5 miles). The Aysgarth Falls (10 miles), a triple flight of waterfalls surrounded by woodland and farmland, is a must-see if you love admiring natural beauty. For a fun-filled family day out, head 5 miles to The Forbidden Corner – a fantastic labyrinth of tunnels, follies and hidden gems that kids will be talking about for months afterwards.
Before stepping into this inviting barn conversion, take a moment to absorb its stone façade and surrounding national park views. Head inside to find that the rural charm continues in the form of exposed stone walls, wooden beams, and verdant window views. Kick off muddy walking boots in the entrance hallway, then move through to the open-plan lounge/diner – the social heart of the home. Here, settle into the soft seating after days of adventure, then flick on the Smart TV for a cosy evening in. When stomachs rumble, walk through to the country-style kitchen and find all that’s needed to cook up Yorkshire feasts for the group. Enjoy the chef’s work back in the lounge/diner or dine alfresco out in the front garden. At the end of each busy day away, retire to a choice of three restful bedrooms, the first of which is on the ground floor; a master super-king-size room with an en-suite shower room and zip-and-link beds that convert to two singles on request. Up on the first floor, two beautifully presented king-size bedrooms await, with exposed wooden beams, and both boast en-suite shower rooms and far-reaching views of the surrounding Dales.
Outside, a private front garden with outdoor seating and a charcoal BBQ looks out across the moorland. A shared moorland field at the back offers even more space to unwind, including a picnic area with a fire pit perched on a hilltop with stunning views down the length of Coverdale. In the shared rear garden, guests will also have access to a large communal BBQ area with a gas BBQ and dining table, perfect to enjoy the sunset over the Dales. There’s also a large shared communal room with a wood burner, dining table, pool table and bifold windows opening out onto the communal BBQ area, plus a games barn with table tennis and darts for whiling away holiday afternoons. Guests will also benefit from private parking for two cars, with additional spaces available by prior arrangement.
