At a glance

  • A superbly restored barn on a working farm with sheep and chickens
  • Relax in front of the wood burner beneath the vaulted, beamed ceiling in the light-filled living space
  • Beautifully furnished, combining character and charm with a country twist
Property code: OC-S30785

With coastal and countryside attractions on the doorstep, this lovely property offers the best of both worlds. The stone-built barn sleeps four guests and is set on a farm at the edge of Clevedon, a pretty seaside town overlooking the Severn Estuary. This is the starting point of the 13-mile Pier to Pier cycle and walking trail to Weston-super-Mare, along the North Somerset coastline. Clevedon’s splendid Victorian, Grade I-listed pier is a gem, and the town has a clutch of wonderful independent shops and eateries. Enjoy the remarkable views across to Wales from the seafront promenade and take a refreshing dip in Marine Lake. Clevedon Golf Centre welcomes both parents and children, and there are two fine National Trust properties to explore nearby: Clevedon Court (1.5 miles), a medieval manor house with terraced gardens and Tyntesfield (7.5 miles), an ornate Victorian Gothic Revival masterpiece set in extensive grounds.

This beautifully converted holiday home is one of two secluded properties. Step inside to discover a light-filled open-plan living area beneath a vaulted roof and a wealth of beams. Whitewashed stone walls are the backdrop to the interior’s subtle colour scheme, enhanced by soft lighting. Underfloor heating and a fine wood burner ensure a cosy ambience as you curl up on the comfortable, L-shaped sofa to watch the Smart TV or make plans for tomorrow. The well-planned, all-white kitchen has everything you need to get cooking, and a pretty, country-style dining table and chairs slot perfectly into this airy space. Still on the ground floor, are a spacious family bathroom and an inviting king-size bedroom, dressed in charming linens. Stairs lead up to the zip-and-link twin bedroom, tucked away within the eaves and boasting skylights – ideal for stargazing on a clear night. This room can also be made as a double bed, on request at time of booking.

Outside is a large, enclosed private patio with garden furniture and a coal BBQ, perfect for outdoor dining. There is also a wider garden area, with a shared boules court.

The property was ideally situated for us, needing to visit an elderly relative in Bristol - out of the city, but an easy commute. We were extremely appreciative of the Welcome Basket, which included a lovely loaf of bread & treats & tennis balls for the dogs. We were particularly impressed on arrival to be welcomed by a gorgeous Christmas treRead moree & other subtle & tasteful decorations. Having had to book last-minute to visit an ill relative in Bristol, we would be returning to our own home with no time to either get our own Christmas tree, or decorate our own home. Our stay at Shepherd's Rest was also our Christmas, albeit we left on 23rd December. Thank you Katherin x We were also impressed with the host's obvious consideration for the environment - with eco-friendly washing up items & recycling facilities. Hide
