Set in West Devon’s peaceful countryside and surrounded by 24 acres of wild flower meadows and fishing lakes that guests are invited to explore, this delightful farm cottage beckons families and groups of friends. This corner of Devon is a haven for walkers, who after conquering the many footpaths surrounding the property, can head to Dartmoor National Park (5 miles) to uncover scenic trails, charming villages, and rugged peaks. Slightly further away is the National Trust’s Lydford Gorge (6.5 miles) where the deepest river gorge in the South West awaits, as well as magical woodlands and waterside trails. To visit local towns with plenty of charm, head to Okehampton (7 miles), Tavistock (14 miles) or the border town of Launceston (15 miles). Although set in the countryside, guests are only ever a 45-minute drive from the coast, where sandy Bude and Widemouth Bay await within 25 miles.

Sleeping up to seven guests across three bedrooms, and welcoming dogs too, this reverse-level farm cottage charms with its original features like exposed wooden beams and stone walls that blend with modern, homely comforts. Step inside to find a rustic yet stylish decor that reflects your rural surroundings and walk into the entrance space where you can kick off muddy walking boots. Find that all three bedrooms are spread across the ground floor and are served by a well-appointed family bathroom with shower and WC also has a separate shower room that are found just off the entrance. The bedrooms comprise two inviting double rooms, one with an additional single bed, and a cosy twin bedroom – all boast stylish prints on the walls and soft linens. Upstairs awaits the cottage’s social heart, the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner which sits under sloping eaves and is bathed in natural light pouring through the windows and skylights. After a long day of hiking, retreat to the lounge space where cosy, vibrant seating is arranged around a Smart TV and potted plants for easy relaxation and entertainment. When stomachs start to rumble, find that the well-equipped kitchen has all you need to whip up feasts for your loved ones, who can gather at the farmhouse-style table nearby to enjoy the chef’s work, or dine alfresco out on the private patio. Guests can also make full use of two off-road, private parking spaces at the property.

Outside, the private, furnished patio is a wonderful spot to start and end each day with a steaming brew or a chilled evening tipple. Relax out here to the sound of birdsong and soak up the far-reaching countryside views. One of the highlights of this cottage is no doubt the vast, peaceful grounds that guests are invited to explore. Set across 24 acres, amble through tranquil wildflower meadows, go wild swimming in the private lake that you can book, or try your hand at fishing in a 1.5-acre lake where carp, bream and perch await. You’ll also find a delightful lake house overlooking the water where guests are free to use the BBQ and outdoor seating.
