Things to do in Bude

Whether you’re looking for a luxury coastal bolt-hole with sea views or prefer to be tucked away in the rolling Cornish countryside, you’re never very far away from Bude’s main attractions - the beaches and the Bude Sea Pool.

Summerleaze Beach is just a five minute stroll from Bude town centre and there’s a large car park which leads directly onto the dunes. This dog friendly beach (dogs should be kept on leads) is the main beach for the town and very popular with families. Look out for Bude Sea Pool, this sea water pool is built into the rocks under the cliffs and was constructed in the 1930’s to provide safe bathing without having to dip your toes into the Atlantic currents in the bay. A haven for swimming which is recognised worldwide… Bude Sea Pool received the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice, awarded to attractions in the Top 10% worldwide in 2020.

You can’t visit Cornwall and not surf! Head to Crooklets Beach which was awarded the Blue Flag Beach 2021 and home to Bude Surf Life Saving Club. This broad sandy beach is also perfect for rock-pooling and has good amenities including a cafe, pub, showers, play park and a skate park.

Crabbing is a favourite pastime so remember to pick up a bucket and line in the town. Give yourself a Bude beach base for the day and book one of the pretty traditional wooden beach huts (contact Bude Tourist Information Centre) and for a small charge you can take over one of these delightful bolt-holes. Bude’s beaches are perfect for families with excellent facilities on hand including play areas and beach cafes. Hire a rowing boat or pedalo and row or paddle the Bude Canal and learn about Bude’s geology and history at Bude’s Heritage Centre, there’s something for everyone.
