Original Cottages are sponsoring the Council for British Archaeology’s 2021 Festival of Archaeology, “Exploring Local Places”

We are the Council for British Archaeology, the UK’s leading archaeology charity, committed to making archaeology accessible to anyone interested in exploring the stories of people and places.

We are currently celebrating our Festival of archaeology, taking place from 17th July – 1st August. The Festival this year, which is the biggest celebration of Archaeology in the UK, is encouraging people of all ages to discover the places and archaeology that is all around them, exploring their local areas and the stories of the people and communities who live there.

We are so pleased to have Original Cottages as one of our sponsors for this year’s Festival. It is especially great to have them on board considering this year’s festival theme of “Exploring Local Places”- as Original Cottages have the perfect places to stay when exploring every corner of our wonderful island, with every area of the UK covered by their regional companies. They understand that Britain’s incredible places have lots of stories to tell, and holidays are the perfect times to find them!

As part of the festival, we’re holding hundreds of events, in all corners of the UK: these include  Discover Bolsterstone – an ancient Pennine village with a big history, an excavation of an 18th/19th Century farmstead in Abbeycwmhir, Radnorshire and a guided walk of the Carn Euny settlement in Cornwall.

Whether you are staying at an Original Cottage close to a festival event, or just live nearby, we’d love for you to come and get involved. All events can be discovered via our handy map, with new events being added every day. This year, for the first time, we’ve also got a huge range of downloadable resources allowing people to get involved from wherever they are, all year round – so why not check out the resources you can enjoy when staying at one of Original Cottages’ properties.

Our events take lots of different forms: from underwater diving to fieldwork, self-led tours to digital talks, appealing to all ages and interests. Everyone is welcome at the festival – from any community or location, with all levels of knowledge of archaeology.

Find the event nearest to you that inspires you, and head on down to explore YOUR local place.
