Five Reasons to Visit Brighton in the Winter

Brighton is a hugely popular seaside resort with millions of visitors each year. It is usually thought of as a summer holiday destination however here are a number of reasons why it is the perfect place to visit during the winter months too! I might be biased because I have lived in Brighton all my life but I think that it is a fantastic place all year round that offers plenty of entertainment come rain or shine.

The Stunning Beaches

The sea is one of the main reasons to come to Brighton – summer and winter. Even on cold winter days the beach can offer great scenery and a fantastic day out. I love going for runs along the seafront in winter and looking out over the dramatic skies and seas. Wrap up warm and go for a walk along the beach to take in the sights and smells, and afterwards go get a hot cup of coffee in one of the seafront cafes. Some people in Brighton even go swimming in the sea on Christmas day! Brrrrrr!

South Downs National Park

Offering stunning views and interesting walks the South Downs National Park is a lovely place to visit even in the winter months. With frosty ground the scenery is stunningly different to the summer time and there is something satisfying about the crunchy ground beneath your feet. Wrapping up warm and going for a walk in winter is extremely fulfilling and to return to a warm cosy home is such a great feeling!

Shopping in the Brighton Laines

The Brighton Laines are a fantastic way of seeing the city in a new light – especially in winter with the beautiful Christmas lights. Split between the North and the South Laines there are hundreds of independent shops and restaurants to explore. You can spend hours walking around the Laines and shopping for unique and interesting Christmas presents. The North Laines house more boutique and vintage stores, whereas the South Laines are full of designer stores therefore there is something for everyone. The hustle and bustle of the North Laines are unique to Brighton and offer a similar feel to a winter market. There are also a number of welcoming cafes to stop and have a cup of tea to warm up again after a long morning of exploring!

Royal Pavilion Ice Skating Rink

As described in one of my earlier blogs the Royal Pavilion Ice Skating Rink is a fantastic winter attraction in Brighton. It is fun for all ages and will offer great entertainment for all skating abilities – from the inexperienced to the professional. Set in front of the stunning Royal Pavilion the rink offers a wonderful wintery atmosphere and will definitely get you in the mood for Christmas.

Theatre Royal Brighton

There is nothing better than getting dressed up and going to the theatre around Christmas time. Showing a range of plays, musicals and concerts throughout the year the theatre is the perfect place to spend an evening out in Brighton. The theatre is a beautiful grade 2 listed building and is one of the oldest working theatres in the country. Over this Christmas period the main show at the theatre will be One Man Two Guvnors which has been described by the Daily Mail as ‘the funniest show on the planet.’ There is a lovely atmosphere at the theatre and I feel that there is something magical about leaving the theatre late at night on a wintery evening.

Come and visit Brighton in the winter to experience all of this and more!
