Amelia's Adventures | From Norfolk to Northumberland

Hello, my name is Amelia and I work for Original Cottages. I’m currently doing a graduate traineeship and will be spending my next placement of the scheme working and living in Northumberland.

Having never visited the area before, I’m going to spend the next 6 months exploring the county and taking in all the delights that Northumberland has to offer, as well as sharing my top tips with guests holidaying in this magical corner of England.

In my first week I’ve settled in to my own cosy Northumbrian cottage and have started to get to know my new surroundings. I’m living in the market town of Alnwick which is perfectly placed for exploring the Northumbrian coast (and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), the Northumberland National Park and surrounding countryside, and it is only a short walk from our office on Fenkle Street!

I’m used to living in a city centre and wasn’t sure what it would be like to live in a market town, but Alnwick has all the amenities I’d ever need. There are supermarkets, banks, restaurants, bars and some traditional and quirky tea rooms I can’t wait to visit.

So far I’ve visited The Market Tavern in the centre of Alnwick (I’d recommend the Slow Braised Northumbrian Beef), visited the local yoga studio, and explored the surroundings of Alnwick Castle (I’m really looking forward to my first visit when it reopens on Friday 29th March).

Next on my to do list is to start exploring different areas such as Rothbury, Morpeth and Seahouses, learn more about our cottages around Northumberland, and of course share my adventures and experiences with you all in this blog.

Until next time, Amelia.
