Cottages in Dolgellau

Nestled at the foot of Cadair Idris lies the pretty market town of Dolgellau, perfect for touring southern Snowdonia and the beautiful coastline of the Mawddach Valley.

This historic town was once a centre for the woollen industry, experienced a gold rush in Victorian times and today boasts over two hundred listed buildings - more than any other town in Wales. With its spectacular mountain scenery, farmer's market and a fine range of shops and eateries, the town is popular with walkers and climbers, drawn to Cadair Idris, or ‘Chair of the Giant Idris’, Wales’ second most popular mountain.

Dolgellau is also perfect for exploring the stunning coastline of the Mawddach Valley where bird watchers will be spoilt for choice with two RSPB reserves nearby together with the Glaslyn Osprey Project an hours drive away.

Adrenaline-seekers will love the world-famous mountain biking centre at Coed y Brenin; home to a network of fantastic all-weather tracks and Go Ape high rope course. For a less strenuous pedal, the Mawddach Trail follows a nine-mile route along the old railway line to pretty Barmouth with its long sandy beach and famous bridge... and if that sounds altogether like too much effort, or you have little ones in tow, a leisurely trip aboard the Fairbourne Light Railway could be just the ticket as you take a rail and ferry ride from Fairbourne to Barmouth. Enjoy a stroll along the beach, make sandcastles and enjoy an ice-cream or two!

If a mountainous escape in Dolgellau sounds like your ideal holiday, we have a range of stone cottages, barn conversions and farmhouses from which to choose. If you need any help or advice call our friendly team on 0333 2020899.
