Cottages in Dolgellau

Nestled at the foot of Cadair Idris lies the pretty market town of Dolgellau, perfect for touring southern Snowdonia and the beautiful coastline of the Mawddach Valley.

This historic town was once a centre for the wool industry, it also experienced a gold rush in Victorian times and today boasts over two hundred listed buildings – more than any other town in Wales. With its spectacular mountain scenery, farmer's market and fine range of shops and eateries, the town is popular with walkers and climbers drawn to Cadair Idris – Wales’ second most popular mountain.

Dolgellau is also perfect for exploring the stunning coastline of the Mawddach Valley where bird watchers will be spoilt for choice with two RSPB reserves nearby, together with the Glaslyn Osprey Project an hour’s drive away.

Adrenaline-seekers will love the world-famous mountain biking centre at Coed y Brenin, which is home to a network of fantastic all-weather trails and a Go Ape high rope course. For a less strenuous pedal, the Mawddach Trail follows a 9-mile route along the old railway line to pretty Barmouth with its long sandy beach and famous bridge. If that sounds like too much effort, or you have little ones in tow, a leisurely trip aboard the Fairbourne Light Railway could be just the ticket – take a rail and ferry ride from Fairbourne to Barmouth. Enjoy a stroll along the beach, make sandcastles and enjoy an ice cream or two!

If a mountainous escape in Dolgellau sounds like your ideal holiday, we have a range of stone cottages, barn conversions and farmhouses from which to choose.
