Cottages in Marazion
The ancient town of Marazion in West Cornwall is one of the county's brightest stars. Located in the very west of the region, within 5 miles of both Penzance and popular Praa Sands, Marazion has everything you could need from a Cornish retreat: a beautiful beach, welcoming shops and places to eat, historic sites and plenty of good weather. We have a sizeable collection of cottages in Marazion, all of which are very close to the sea, with many offering coastal views. A large portion of our Marazion self-catering holiday homes are two-guest properties, making them perfect for a romantic getaway.
If you are travelling as a family or large group, we also offer several dog-friendly, family-friendly and luxury cottages in Marazion and the surrounding area, so you can be sure that we have the ideal holiday accommodation for every occasion.
Marazion is well regarded as one of the region’s prettiest towns, but it is also one of the oldest. Established in 1257 after being affirmed by King Henry III, Marazion has some wonderful historic buildings and a distinctly old-world feel. The town’s most famous monument is St Micheal’s Mount, a tidal island just off the shore of Mount Bay with a medieval castle. The island is partly owned by the National Trust but is still under occupancy by the St Aubyn family, who have lived on the island since the English Civil War. The castle and gardens are open for most parts of the year, but booking entry tickets is essential. You can access the island via boat or challenge yourself to walk across during low tide.
Aside from the mount, Marazion has a range of local gems that are less famous, but just as entertaining and interesting. We recommend checking out The Hoxton Special, a cafe and activity centre on the beach offering kitesurfing, paddleboarding and kayaking, as well as evening yoga classes. There are also various pubs serving local food and drink across the town. The Fire Engine Inn is a beautiful, dog-friendly pub with a beer garden overlooking the bay and St Micheal’s Mount, making it the perfect place for an evening tipple. There are also plenty of locally-run shops, including several cute gift shops.
Naturally, Marazion and its West Cornwall neighbours, Lizard and Mousehole, shine in the spring and summer months, but this is a town that is also well-known for its Christmas celebrations. In December, the streets are lined with beautiful lights, locals decorate their windows, and on Christmas Eve, Santa makes a special appearance in the town square. Totally magical, a festive trip to Marazion is a wonderful option for families looking for a winter break.
