Large Cottages in Kent
Imagine rolling countryside garlanded with vineyards, apple trees, hop farms and a coastline varying from gentle shingle to dramatic chalk cliffs, all viewed from your sprawling holiday cottage that’s large enough for all the family, even a dog or two!
Kent as we see it, is so much more than just the Garden of our England. This special county has inspired songwriters and artists alike, is home to celebrities such as Keith Richards and Mick Jagger, and played witness to some of history's most famous battles. Explore Kent’s castles, Oast houses and grand country homes which enrich the landscape and are testament to past gentry lives and those that toiled the land. For those who are new to Kent, fear not, as we have put together some suggestions of where you, your friends and family can stay.
The south-east coast between Hythe and Whitstable is a fabulous place to base yourselves when the need to fresh sea air, windy walks along Dover’s cliff tops and swimming in the English Channel takes hold; and we’ve some great properties for you all to stay in too! From big and beautiful townhouses, to large and luxurious seafront homes, the choice is yours.
Our top tips for places to visit include Deal in Kent’s eastern corner; a really pretty seaside town with a rich heritage in fishing and mining. It is also home to England’s most exquisite artillery castle, Deal Castle, commissioned by the tudor king, Henry VIII. The Turner Contemporary gallery in Margate is also a must see and when you’ve soaked up enough modern art, you can enjoy the pleasures of a little retail therapy in Margate’s Old Town, or the thrills of Dreamland.
Kent wouldn’t be Kent without its historic gardens, and visits to these wonderful places make for a great day out. Interesting for all ages, and within an easy drive from our large holiday cottages, are two of our favourites; National Trust Sissinghurst Castle Garden and World Garden at Lullingstone Castle. Designed as a map of the world, World Garden makes for a truly unique experience, growing plants from around the globe, from prickly cacti to Eucalyptus, while Sissinghurst Castle Garden showcases formal planting at its best!
