Much of the traditional character of the barn has been retained during the restoration and exposed beams, oak doors and slate floors blend in well with a modern bathroom and up to date woodburning stove.
House Martins is located down a quiet country lane within the grounds of the owner’s Georgian country mansion and can be rented out along with its sister property, Oriel, for groups of up to eleven people. The property is well-located to enjoy the stunning scenery of North Devon and there are plenty of ways to enjoy it – there’s the South West Coast Path for walking, amazing beaches to relax on, horse riding centres and bike hire companies.
The well-known Muddiford Inn is three miles from House Martins and just on the outskirts of Muddiford itself is Broomhill Art Hotel and Sculpture Gardens - a fascinating and beautiful place to visit, set in tranquil, rural woodland. About six miles from the cottage is the town of Barnstaple - the commercial and agricultural centre of North Devon. This charming town comfortably blends a handsome past with an energetic, present-day buzz. It’s the shopping capital of the region, with a mix of cutting-edge retail outlets, long-established family owned stores and little boutiques and in the pannier market, local food producers (interspersed with dozens of cafes to rest weary shoppers’ legs!). At weekends, Barnstaple makes wandering the streets a distinct pleasure, with performers and musicians out to entertain.
