Property code: OC-PRD

Tucked away on a side street off Aldeburgh High Street, this cosy two-storey cottage offers a comfortable and welcoming base to explore the Suffolk coast. Famous for its pebble beach, colourful seafront properties, and renowned fish and chip shop, Aldeburgh offers the best of the British seaside. It has a vibrant art and cultural scene with several galleries located in the town and the annual Aldeburgh Literary Festival every March. Composer Benjamin Britten lived here, something marked by a seashell sculpture on the beach and a classical music festival held at nearby Snape Maltings every June (6.5 miles). Walkers can lace up their boots and explore the gorgeous coastal scenery of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, while birdwatchers will adore nearby RSPB Minsmere (9 miles).

This is a compact and comfortable mid-terrace cottage, with a coastal theme running through the stylish interior. The front door leads straight into a bright and airy lounge, with a choice of comfortable seating and a TV and DVD. A door leads into the homely dining room, with an archway leading to the smart, contemporary kitchen. A staircase in the dining area goes up to the first floor, where there’s a spacious double bedroom at the front of the property. A single bedroom on the other side of the landing follows through into a light and bright family bathroom.

A rear patio with a bench and an outdoor table and chairs offers a lovely spot to make the most of the warmer weather. This holiday cottage comes with private parking for one car to the rear, a real added bonus for Aldeburgh. Shop: 150 yards Pub: 100 yards.

Aldeburgh and the surrounding area has inspired many authors and poets in the past but the most famous son of the town is Benjamin Britten who founded the Aldeburgh Music Festival which now has worldwide acclaim and is held every year in June at Snape Maltings. Fishermen still pull their colourful boats up on the shingle beach and sell fresh fish from the picturesque huts. The wide, mainly Georgian high street has many attractive buildings whilst the seafront properties all have commanding views of the beach and the North Sea. Boating is popular on the nearby Alde estuary where a large variety of yachts can be seen at summer weekends.

This compact cottage was ideal for our little family break. The kitchen was well equipped and up to date, the bathroom was a good side and perfect for washing off suncream and sand after a busy day exploring, plus the beds were so comfortable. We appreciated the outdoor space and clothes washing facilities too. We also loved being able to walk to tRead morehe beach, shop and Two Magpies bakery while being just a short drive from Oxford, Sutton Hoo, Snape Maltings, Woodbridge, Framingham and Southwold where we had days out. The walk to Thorpeness was also lovely. Personally I'd avoid the beef dripping cooked chippies in town and hold out for Mrs Ts at Southwold Harbour, the magpie pastries are a must however. Hide

Cottage is pleasant and in a good position. Sound proofing is very poor, we could hear every word neighbours spoke and hear their dogs running around. Then a young family with a dog moved in and we could hear the children running around and shouting and again dog barking. Spoilt our holiday.

Good location. Parking place is great. Cottage was clean and well equipped. Welcome pack was generous. Some people might find the steep, narrow stairs a challenge. A comfortable and very well located cottage in Aldeburgh. A parking place together with a very comfortable bed and shower as well as a bath made our stay a very good one. Most mornings we walked to the beach for a swim. No more than 4 or 5 minutes from the property.

The stairs are very steep and the handrail is only usable half way up. If you're in the front, double bedroom, negotiating and using the bathroom at night is worrying especially with the drop down into the bathroom. The kitchen was well equipped and all the services worked well. The location was great for the town and the beach .

For me, the staircase rail partially disappeariing halfway up the stairs was tricky. And thd big step to the bathroom was something to think about, but negotiable. Otherwise, I found the cottage comfortable and well-stocked. I am not fond of induction hobs but it was used a few times. I would recommend it, but maybe not for those with any mobiliRead morety issues. I take responsibilty for not having checked about stairs or steps but it was fine for six days. And there is parking and a convenient walk to the shops and activity in the town. I think the heaters could beecome irritating in the winter, but it was a warm week and there was no problem. Hide
