This beautiful, terraced cottage sits just inside the historic Landgate in Rye and is perfect for couples or small families looking to explore this delightful town and its surrounding areas. Start your holiday by taking a short stroll into the centre of Rye where you’ll find modern eateries and quirky boutiques juxtaposed with old-fashioned antique shops and medieval buildings and inns. For something a little different, take the short 3-mile drive to Winchelsea. Here, visitors can take a tour of its labyrinth of underground cellars and vaults or enjoy a trip to the Court Hall Museum and learn about, ‘the drowned city’ of Old Winchelsea that now lies somewhere under Rye Harbour. For those wishing to visit the coast, the beach of Camber Sands is an easy 4-mile drive from the property.

This delightful end-of-terrace home with origins dating from the 1300s was converted into an individual cottage in the 16th century. Whilst maintaining many of its original features and period charm, it has been lovingly decorated and furnished with the greatest attention to detail offering a truly exceptional place to stay. Once inside the property, guests will find themselves in the open-plan lounge/diner. With comfortable sofas, a wood burner set within a wonderful brick fireplace and wooden floors and doors, as well as a dining table for four, this is a wonderful space for guests to relax together. The country cottage-style kitchen has quality appliances including a cast-iron range cooker. Steps leading from the kitchen will take you to the snug; a sweet little room with low ceilings and exposed beams, a TV and a window seat – perfect for a bit of quiet time. Cottage-style stairs lead up to the first floor where you’ll find a modern bathroom, and a double bedroom with a wrought-iron bed and ornamental fireplace. Further cottage-style stairs lead to a heavily beamed attic twin bedroom, with sloping ceilings and skylight windows with views of the Landgate. This room has partially restricted head height, plus, twin 2'6" beds making it suitable for children or adults that are happy with the headroom restrictions

To the rear of the cottage is a pretty courtyard with a feature wall fountain, plants and flowers, and garden furniture.

  • 2 bedrooms – 1 double, 1 twin with 2’6” beds (suitable for children or adults that are happy with the headroom restrictions)

It is a charming cosy cottage in a prime location in Rye, with easy access to the high street, the station, pubs, restaurants and food shops. This is a lovely cottage, well maintained, comfortable, and clean. The cottage is on the whole beautiful and well situated. However, the owners should have included photographs of all the cottage style stairs. All of them are incredibly steep and are unsuitable unless you are physically fit. The attic steps, which are little more that a glorified ladder, are very steep and the treads incredible narrow so totalRead morely unsuitable for children. The main stairs have had the bottom step removed to make way for a kitchen unit so creating a double height first step and the stone steps down to the lower sitting room lethal. I would advise anyone with small children, pets or the older generation to think seriously before renting this cottage. Hide

From the moment we walked in the door, we fell in love with the cottage. Its cosy and comfortable and in an amazing location. The welcome basket was exceptional and overall the cottage is very well equipped. Cooking on the range was a bit of an adventure, but not difficult once we got the hang of it. Everything was clean and tidy and the showerRead more was lovely (we had no problem with low water pressure as someone else commented). The stairs are VERY steep and I wouldnt recommend it for young children or anyone with mobility issues, plus my husband kept banging his head on the back door and when coming downstairs. But we would definitely stay here again Hide

We had such a lovely holiday in Rye. We would love to come back at some point. The cottage is lovely and in unique historic location however the cottage wasn't properly cleaned when we arrived and so I had to clean what I could as soon as we got there (trust me I'm not a clean freak but I couldn't have stayed there if I hadn't done this). There areRead more also elements such as damp on walls with peeling paint, dirty tired stairway carpets, and the bathroom could do with a regrout and new shower screen to get rid of the mould. As soon as I had cleaned however it felt like home and we really enjoyed our stay. If you could just make these small tweaks to your cleaning system and small updates the cottage itself you would have such a stunning offer. Hide
