Once an important place of pilgrimage, the ruins of Bromholm Priory are still to be seen in Bacton today. The Priory was built in 1113 AD by William de Glanville and was home to the Cluniacs, the Black Monks who purchased a piece of the True Cross, the Bromholm Roode.  Ensuing miracles ensured visits by many thousands of pilgrims including King Henry III. The Priory was mentioned in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, the Domesday Book, and was the subject of a prediction in Mother Shipton's Almanac.

Today the coastal village opens its doors to the 21st century pilgrims who visit for their holidays. They enjoy the friendly village atmosphere and the sandy beaches, which are often quiet even in the height of summer. There is a good range of local amenities including a pub and shop nearby, a children's playground.

We've just come back from the most wonderful stage at Pilgrim's chase. We were a family of 6, plus a dog. The facilities were excellent, everything was clean, lots of provisions included by the host. Our welcome kit was very well received, the homemade cake was superb. We were lucky enough to arrive during a heatwave and the exceptional pool was Read morea highlight. It was private and equally shared between other users, we felt it was always available when we needed. The beach was less that 5 mins away, there was miles of sandy beach in each direction. It was also very quiet, we loved it. We were also provided with our own gas BBQ and all of the utensils we needed. Our house Maxine was an excellent host. She was friendly and helpful. We had to call on her once as we couldn't figure out something with the pool and she arrived within a few mins and sorted the issue. A 5/5, excellent place to stay. We'd highly recommend x Hide

Unfortunately we were really disappointed with our break. The cleanliness of the property was pretty abysmal and there were unsafe electrics which left us with no heating and no hot water for part of our stay - which we the waited all week to repaired. The sauna was broken and it would appear this has been an issue for some time, long before our hoRead moreliday. The onsite staff were wonderfully helpful and friendly, and we enjoyed the pool a great deal, but overall a really disappointing stay for the money. Hide

We had a lovely week staying in the cottage. The facilities were very good for kids - great pool, games room and outdoor area. There was also lots to do in the general area, good walks to be had, places to visit and lovely coastline. Maxine the property manager was extremely welcoming and very helpful during our stay.

What an amazing place. The facilities were excellent, access to the swimming pool great and the outside space for active children great to have. The four very active children with us were never bored. Location close to the beach really was a bonus. Thank you for the most amazing welcome pack - unexpected and a real hit.

Lovely location and secure garden area - parking close by. Three bedrooms - all looking into the garden. The twin beds are on the small side - but very comfy ! Although a little tricky to find at first - the location is very quiet and an easy walk to a fabulous and fairly empty beach.
