Whitby is a popular choice for visitors all year round. It is well known for its long sandy beach and delicious seafood. For a different day out, why not climb the famous 199 steps to reach the ruins of Whitby Abbey. It's said to have been the inspiration for Bram Stokers Count Dracula, and its gothic splendour is the perfect place from which to take in some truly stunning views over the town.

Whitby harbour is steeped in history and visitors can see where British explorer Captain James Cook first worked as an apprentice before setting sail and discovering Australia. The harbour is a buzz of activity and you can enjoy early mornings watching the fishing boats come ashore before getting first choice of their catch. There's always something happening throughout the town , and festivals and fairs are held throughout the year including Whitby Goth Festival, Whitby Folk Week and the Whitby Regatta.

This is the second time we have stayed in this property (We stayed with friends early December) we were so pleased with our stay we booked again with some other friends. The cottage is done out to a high standard, extremely clean and its very warm and inviting. The kitchen is well stocked with crockery and utensils. Plenty of instructions were sRead moreent and reminders that our booking was coming up. You can walk into Whitby in less that 10 mins, its uphill coming back though! We had a lovely stay at Walebeck and would strongly recommend. The walk down into town was only c10 minutes (and maybe 15 on the way back!), so we didnt need to move the car all week as there are plenty of train and bus services available locally. Our favourite hostelries were the Black Horse (lovely friendly little pub with great atmosphere and beRead moreer choice); and The Endeavour (where you can eat your take-away fish and chips and they provide cutlery and condiments!). Whitby is a lovely little town with lots to do and see and we were very lucky with the weather. Hide

The property was as described and was in a great location for walking to the bus/train station and the harbour. We found the kitchen a bit of a squeeze for 4 people, with the fridge door and kitchen door opening into each other, but we soon got into the habit of knocking before entering, just in case somebody had the fridge door open. Also, in the Read moregarage are some wall units which could cause a nasty accident when loading the tumble drier. This could be avoided by turning the drier so that the door is not at right angles to the units. These are very minor points and would in no way spoil the overall experience when staying here. Hide

Quietly surprised how close to the harbour Walebeck is. Using the steps at the side of the police station makes a great short cut to town or the harbour just a 3 to 4 minute walk, brilliant location. Walebeck was very clean and well equipped covering all our needs if we wanted to eat in. Co-Op and Heron stores local to the bungalow. Bus to MiddlesbRead morerough, Redcar, Saltburn, Robin Hoods Bay and Scarborough parked the car and used the bus everywhere all week couldn't have worked out any better even the weather was kind to us. We were a party of 4 Adults (2 couples friends for many years) Walebeck was more than comfortable for us or a Family of 4. Great views of the Whitby Abbey and a sea view. Room on the drive for our 2 cars, an excellent all around stay. Hide
