Property code: OC-MAIL1

Mailscot sits in dramatic National Trust coastline in an outstanding Georgian vicarage in the heart of Mortehoe village backing onto open farmland. Two cottages, Mailscot and Wykeham, sit either end of The Old Vicarage and share garden with children’s play area to the side of the house. On the ground floor, Mailscot has a large open plan lounge/kitchen/diner with comfortable leather seating set around a wood burning stove. Two full height Georgian windows with wooden shutters look out over the lawned gardens which guests have full use of. Upstairs there are two bedrooms with traditional furnishings served by an attractive family bathroom.

Just down the road is the popular coastal village of Woolacombe, with its three mile stretch of golden sand - voted number 1 in the UK by TripAdvisor guests for the last two years. It also holds the England for Excellence Gold Award for best family resort and was voted the Best British Beach in the Mail On Sunday. However it’s not just the beach that brings visitors to Woolacombe - there is a wide selection of restaurants, teashops and bars to enjoy whilst the laid back atmospheres make it a firm favourite for people of all ages.

A short drive east takes you to Exmoor National Park, which has Europe’s very first International Dark Sky Reserve, the tallest tree in England, the highest cliffs in England, almost 250 species of bird and over 1,000 different flowering plants and grasses, the highest number of wild red deer in England and wild native ponies, perfectly adapted to the upland conditions of Exmoor. A short drive south takes you to Barnstaple, the commericial and agricultural centre of North Devon. It is a charming place that comfortably blends a handsome past with an energetic, present-day buzz. It’s the shopping capital of the region, with a mix of cutting-edge retail outlets, long-established family owned stores, little boutiques and the pannier market, which hosts local food producers

This was our second stay at Mailscot. It's a lovely cottage and has been refurbished since our last visit to a high standard with good quality bed linen, pillows, duvet and towels. Although it is a shared garden we had it to ourselves and even though you are in the heart of Mortehoe it is very quiet and very pretty. The ceilings in all of the roomsRead more are high which is a great bonus as we are both tall! We'll definitely stay at Mailscot again - it's in a great location and is very comfortable. Hide

Be aware if staying with a young child and you require a travel cot and high chair - we found the travel cot soaking wet, dirty and mouldy. The high chair was found stained and quite dirty. Overall the property was ok, rough round the edges and needs a bit of love.

The cottage is absolutely beautiful, and the location was perfect for coastal walks and trips to the local villages. The cleanliness could have been improved somewhat; cobwebs and dusting needed in places, but the beds were super comfortable and the log fire was cosy and welcome after long walks. We would 100% stay again.

Lovely 4 bed property within walking distance of the village centre. A high standard and very comfortable. Good position for walks from the door although you need to be fit as the coastal path is steep with many ups and downs.

Mailscot is a beautiful place to stay! We loved the log fire, the house keeps really warm, the garden is spacious and gets loads of sun. Woolacombe bay is a 5 minute drive away and there are some beautiful walks straight out the drive. Would definitely recommend and hope to be back again!
