Button Stable is a lovely, three bedroomed barn conversion situated on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Bratton Fleming seven miles from Barnstaple. Sleeping four people, the barn is on a 60-acre traditional sheep and beef farm where the owner welcomes guests to explore the neighbouring land and look out for the varied wildlife including the well-known Exmoor red deer. The spacious living room has a beautiful wide chimney with wooden lintel and a woodburning stove, plenty of comfortable seating, exposed stone work and a beamed ceiling. The kitchen/diner has an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. Stairs lead up to the first floor which has all three bedrooms – a Double and two Twins – and the family bathroom. A spacious Double room and a Twin bedded room both have apex ceiling and crossbeams and a further Twin room has sloping ceilings and a velux window offering delightful country views. Outside, Button Stable is surrounded by stunning countryside and is just a ten-minute walk from the village of Bratton Fleming with its general stores, pubs and green with children’s play area and assault course. Barnstaple, the commericial and agricultural centre of North Devon, is about seven miles away. It is a charming place that comfortably blends a handsome past with an energetic, present-day buzz. It has a mix of cutting-edge retail outlets, long-established family owned stores and little boutiques. The pannier market hosts local food producers interspersed with dozens of cafes. At weekends, Barnstaple makes wandering the streets a distinct pleasure, with performers and musicians out to entertain. If the weather turns nasty, you’re well provided for in the town. Let’s Go is Barnstaple’s newest family entertainment complex. There’s also a lovely 1930s cinema in town which offers four modern screens showing the latest releases as well as live screenings of major theatre productions.

Lovely location. Clean and cosy. Parking is limited and difficult to access/depart safely. I would definitely recommend as a base to explore. If you are a light sleeper, avoid twin room with skylight. Sheep can be noisy throughout the night.

As with all our visits to Button Stable / Barn over the years, we use the site to visit family who live in Bratton Fleming. The location is ideal for us to walk to their home. This August visit was more of a holiday and having lived in Devon many years ago, the location is ideal to visit beaches on the North Devon coast as well as 'round the cornerRead more' to Woolacombe / Croyde.
