Within 10 miles of the Moray coast, this rural retreat combines an escape from the everyday with a taste of local life. Sleeping up to six guests, it’s the perfect base for families and groups of friends planning days of Scottish adventures. Buckie (12 miles) is a busy little town with a harbour and leisure facilities, including golf courses and outdoor bowling parks. Follow the Moray Coast Trail from here and keep your eyes peeled for bottlenose dolphins and whales. The seaside village of Cullen (9 miles) is famous for its potato and haddock soup. For a change of terrain, the Speyside Way starts in Buckie, running through the heart of Scotland’s malt whisky country and linking the Moray Firth coast with the Cairngorms National Park. If you’d prefer a tour and tasting session without the walk, nominate a designated driver and visit the Strathisla Distillery in Keith (4.5 miles).

Before stepping into this stone cottage, take a moment to savour the surrounding scenery of rolling hills and the sights and sounds of the family farm. Head inside and find space in the utility/boot room to shed outdoor gear after days of adventure. Unwind in the lounge between excursions; sink into the soft seating and find your favourite films on the Smart TV. When it’s time to eat, the well-appointed kitchen/diner features everything needed for a self-catered stay, including a wood burner to keep everyone cosy during the chillier months. Completing the ground floor is a family bathroom with a shower over the bath, plus a separate WC. At the end of each day away, head up to the first floor and find three charming bedrooms, all of which enjoy far-reaching rural views. Choose from a master king-size bedroom, a spacious double and a cosy twin room set under the sloping eaves of the house.

Step outside as often as possible and make full use of the generous garden, which is enclosed and wraps around the property. The extensive lawn invites relaxation and garden games, while the furnished patio beckons for evening tipples and al fresco meals. Adding to the fun is a roaring fire pit for marshmallow roasting and a BBQ for those holiday feasts. Completing the offering is ample private parking, allowing for stress-free arrivals and day trips.
