At the northern fringe of the Lincolnshire Wolds, Caistor is a Roman fortified town popular among walkers as a waypoint on the Viking Way, which passes through en-route from the Humber Bridge to Rutland. A circular loop of just under 4 miles links Caistor to Nettleton – once a hub of ironstone mining activity – and nearby Nettleton Top (3.5 miles), where the elevated viewpoint offers far-reaching vistas that, on a clear day, can stretch towards the River Trent, Lincoln Cathedral and the Humber Bridge. Beyond, Market Rasen (9.5 miles) hosts a year-round programme of horseracing and other events, and is another access point along the Viking Way. In Lincoln (27 miles) a modern retail centre sits at the lower end of aptly-named Steep Hill, which ascends to an ancient cathedral and castle famous for their Magna Carta connections. For classic coastal fun drive 13.5 miles to Cleethorpes where you’ll find golden sands, calm waters, bustling arcades and a historic pier.
Moments from Caistor’s characterful Market Place, this tastefully updated apartment is directly opposite a free on-street parking area so, once unpacked, you can forget about your cars for a few days. Leave coats and shoes in the entrance hall, then head up to the first floor to find a light and airy kitchen/diner on the right, with sleek cabinets and a contemporary dining suite where six can gather for good food and lively conversation. An armchair in one corner creates a quiet spot to curl up with a book; close-by, there’s a choice of comfortable seating arranged in the elegant lounge, where a Smart TV and a selection of books and games serve up home-from-home entertainment. Adding a further note of luxury, the large family bathroom features a free-standing bath as well as a walk-in shower, while the master bedroom features a king-size bed and its own Smart TV. Climb the stairs to the second floor and two further bedrooms also have their own TV – a double and a twin room offer flexibility for any party.
There’s no garden here, but within 150 metres Caistor Park has a play area where children can let off steam.
