Escape to this charming barn conversion. One of a pair of sympathetically converted stables, sat in the owner’s grounds in Market Stainton. Located within the Lincolnshire Wolds, just 8 miles from the market town of Horncastle. Sleeping four people across two bedrooms, it’s perfect for small families or groups who are in search of a peaceful rural retreat to call home while they explore the Wolds together. Lace up your walking boots and follow the footpath from the grounds to Donington-on-Bain (3 miles), with a kissing gate half way, a stop on the long-distance Viking Way, where you can rest and refuel in the village tea room. Alternatively, head into Louth (9 miles) to gaze up at St James’ Church, whose spire is the tallest of any medieval parish church in Britain, and browse the independent shops on market day. Further afield, make a beeline for Lincoln (21 miles) to see an original 1215 Magna Carta at Lincoln Castle.
Step up into the handy boot room, where you can take a seat on the bench to kick off your muddy boots, then head through the original barn doors into the open-plan living space. The old stable stalls, with their arched frames and iron bars, have been kept as a quirky reminder of the building’s past. Whip up some dinner in the stylish kitchen area beneath a tall arched window, then pull up a chair at the dining table, with its settle-style bench. Afterwards, sink into a leather armchair beside the corner wood burner. When the day is done, climb the stairs past another arched window to two king-size bedrooms, where exposed beams and pops of colour add plenty of character. Each bedroom has its own sleek en-suite shower room with a walk-in shower.
Outside you’ll find an enclosed courtyard, where you can fire up the BBQ for an al fresco supper. Enjoy the morning sun at the front of the property at the bistro table. As dusk falls, slip into the private hot tub and listen out for the birdlife in the surrounding grounds. Private parking is available for two cars.
