Get the whole gang together at this charming former school, sitting in the hamlet of Bryncroes on the Llyn Peninsula – just 6.5 miles from the coastal village of Aberdaron. Sleeping six people across three bedrooms, it’s perfect for small families or groups who are in search of a sleek and stylish countryside base to call home while they explore the Llyn coast together. Set off for Porthor (4.5 miles), where the sand famously whistles underfoot, and follow the trail along the rugged coastline. Alternatively, catch the waves at Hell’s Mouth (7.5 miles), a long sandy bay popular with beginner and experienced surfers alike. From Aberdaron, hop on a boat trip across to Bardsey Island (Ynys Enlli), or head to Abersoch (8 miles) to try your hand at sailing, paddleboarding or kayaking.
Step inside and you’ll find room to hang up your coats and kick off your boots before heading into the bright, vaulted lounge, where timber trusses rise overhead, and an oak staircase climbs up to a stylish mezzanine reading snug. Rustle up some dinner in the chic kitchen, where four stools at the high-top breakfast bar allow you to keep the chef company. Then gather in the dining room to share an elegant dinner beside the wood burner, which is set in a striking stone chimney breast. Once the plates are cleared, the dining table converts into a pool table, so you can rack up the balls, or take aim at the dartboard. Afterwards, sink into the plush sofas in the lounge and cosy up in front of the cottage’s second wood burner, while the competitive ones battle it out on the table football. When the day is done, retreat to one of three bedrooms – there are two doubles and a twin – with one of the doubles beautifully set under the eaves. A ground-floor bathroom with a bath and a walk-in shower, and a handy shower room, complete the layout.
Outside, you’ll find a large garden with patios, a lawn and a stream to discover. Fire up the gas BBQ for an al fresco dinner, relax by the firepit or slip into the hot tub on a clear evening to gaze up at the starry skies. Table tennis and swing ball are ready on the lawn for some friendly competition. Private parking is available for three cars.
