This holiday annexe is perfect for a couple and up to two dogs wanting to explore what this area of Somerset has to offer or enjoy beautiful Mendip Hills walks. Head to atmospheric Glastonbury (8.5 miles) with its ancient Abbey or climb the hill up to Glastonbury Tor, a medieval church tower. A site of religious significance for more than 1,000 years, it’s also linked to Celtic and Arthurian mythology. Around Glastonbury town there are lots of eclectic and alternative shops, plus check out the Chalice Well. You could even arrange to stay here and access the Glastonbury Festival site – on foot it’s around 30 minutes’ walk. Head out to Cheddar (14 miles), the home of the eponymous cheese that was matured in its famous caves. There’s plenty for visitors to see and do here, not forgetting driving through the striking Cheddar Gorge (15 miles) or walking along the top.
You’ll enter this small but perfectly formed annexe, via its own courtyard and French doors into the open-plan lounge/diner. Sit on the comfortable sofa to watch the wall-mounted Smart TV or chat over your day – or spread the maps out after eating at the dining table for two. The bijoux king-size bedroom, with the bed positioned against one wall, leads from this room. There’s a sofa-bed in the lounge for one additional guest by prior arrangement. The bathroom is off an inner hallway at the other end of the lounge/diner; it should be noted that the country plumbing has a macerator toilet and drainage, so makes some noise when it’s flushed and only organic matter and paper can be flushed away. The well-equipped kitchen is a practical space for cooking up a holiday storm.
From the lounge’s French windows, you can access the courtyard garden which is fully enclosed – always good news for dog owners - and furnished with a chiminea. As you enjoy a sundowner you can take in the lovely views over the surrounding pastureland.
