Alongside a choice of places to shop, eat and drink, Welton has a children’s playground, an 18-hole golf course, and access to scenic walks – a 10-mile loop connects the village to three others, with views of country churches along the way. Strong links with the RAF are all around too: the International Bomber Command Centre (10.5 miles) makes a moving day out, and at the former RAF Wickenby (7.5 miles) an original control tower contains memorabilia, photographs, and artifacts dedicated to the Lancaster bomber and its crews. Step further back in time in Lincoln (6 miles). The city is famous for its stunning cathedral and castle – both synonymous with magnificent architecture and the Magna Carta, and at the top end of the aptly-named Steep Hill. For family fun, Rand Farm Park and Lincoln Zoo are both within 8.5 miles, while Market Rasen hosts a year-round programme of horseracing and events.
Park and follow a wide path 55 metres through the garden, pausing awhile on the patio to appreciate the verdant countryside that surrounds; two centuries old, this handsome holiday home exudes peace and calm. A stable door opens into the lounge, where soft seating is arranged before a Smart TV, well-dressed windows deliver further leafy views, and a selection of board games offers additional home-style entertainment. Beyond, the contemporary kitchen contains all the self-catering essentials, and has character features such as wood panelling, exposed beams and a farmhouse-style dresser. The rustic dining suite has space to spread out maps and plan your next day’s adventures while the dishwasher does its work. As eyelids start to droop, head up to the first floor where a family bathroom is shared by the two double bedrooms – in one, the bed is against a wall and accessible from one side only.
Enjoy al fresco food and drinks on the patio at the front of the property to a soundtrack of birdsong – with 360-degree countryside views, the large garden is gorgeous and also includes a summerhouse with additional outdoor furniture. A small river flows alongside the house – if you’re bringing pets, please be aware that the pretty fence is not dog-proof.
