Surrounded by scenic countryside, this former farm workers’ dwelling dishes up an authentic taste of Royal Deeside life. To the west, the Cairngorms National Park offers some of Scotland’s most breathtaking landscapes, with hiking, cycling and wildlife-watching opportunities aplenty. Further adventures can be found at the Deeside Activity Park (3 miles) where you can try go-karting, archery, axe throwing and clay shooting, while the Deeside Way passes close by as it approaches Ballater (19 miles). Further on, Balmoral Castle (26 miles) is the Scottish holiday residence of the Royal Family – visit when the grounds are open to the public for a stroll among its beautiful gardens. Closer to home, Crathes Castle (16 miles) is a classic Scottish tower house famed for its walled garden and is close to Banchory (13 miles) where you can shop for self-catering supplies. Alternatively, visit Aboyne (7.5 miles) for a fine choice of stores and eateries.

Authentic wood panelling, exposed beams and a stunning granite wall are among the characterful features at this traditionally-styled, single-storey retreat. Step inside and a Smart TV and wood burner within the lounge set the scene for companionable evenings, while the floor-to-ceiling south-facing windows frame far-reaching views across the surrounding landscape. Lap up the panorama as you gather at the dining suite to savour meals served fresh from the nearby kitchen, then freshen up in the shower room before retiring for the night. Ensuring the property is suitable for any party of family or friends, both of the two king-size bedrooms can be made up as singles on request.

Double patio doors from the lounge open onto a private deck with a BBQ – the perfect spot for al fresco dining as the evenings draw in. The farm’s cattle graze the nearby pastures, and on clear nights the starscapes can be stunning.

We had such a fabby holiday at "The Bothy": the accommodation is on a working farm & the views are stunning, especially as the views can be appreciated from the comfortable front room with floor to ceiling windows on three sides. We were very fortunate as the weather was mostly sunny, if cold. It resulted in sparkling, frosty days & amazing starligRead moreht dark skies at night. The Bothy is warm & comfortable, with a well equipped kitchen. It also has a smart TV so after being out walking each day, we could hunker down with a home cooked meal & a film. Of course, there are many pubs & cafes to check out & we did that too. We returned feeling revived, refreshed & relaxed...& wanting a wind turbine in our street ( like the farm)! Hide

The cottage is very comfortable with all the amenities you will need. There are panoramic views of the countryside to the south through three full length windows. A private outside seating area with barbeque is provided. The location is within 30 minutes drive to a wide variety of villages and scenic walks. Shops and fuel are around 15 minutes awayRead more. I would recommend this as a great location to stay for those who have dogs and enjoy a peaceful break. In the countryside. Hide
