An inviting hideaway nestled in the Scottish borderlands, this cottage has been created within former stable and coach house buildings. Sleeping two guests, with the option of two more on the sofa bed in the lounge, it makes a perfect retreat for couples and small families, especially those wishing to bring a pet. Tucked away near Tweedsmuir, 12.5 miles from the market town of Biggar, it also makes an exceptional base for exploring the beautiful Tweed Valley. Stroll beside the Talla Reservoir, 2.5 miles away, to watch for wildlife and see the Talla Linns waterfall. The dramatic hollow of the Devil’s Beeftub is 10.5 miles away. Here you can join the dramatic Annandale Way and undertake circular walks of varying length to Moffat. Venture into Biggar to stock up on local produce, visit the Biggar and Upper Clydesdale Museum and take in a show at Scotland’s only permanent puppet theatre.

Let yourselves into your private cottage from the delightful courtyard encompassing other holiday retreats to find yourselves in the open-plan lounge/diner. This welcoming room has an understated Scottish country house style, with an abundance of comfortable seating and space. Take a seat on one of the sofas adorned with tartan cushions to unwind after your long hikes through the surrounding bens and glens. Watch the wall-hung TV, listen to music or discuss the day’s adventures over a cup of tea and a slice of shortbread. The adjoining kitchen is well-equipped to ensure you can cater for yourselves easily, whipping up hearty dishes with the provisions you have bought locally. Set the table through in the lounge/diner for your feasts, then round each evening off with a wee nip of Scottish whisky. One of the sofas in this room can be transformed into a bed for two guests if discussed at booking. There is also a family shower room downstairs. Climb the wooden staircase up to the first floor of the cottage to rest your head for the night in the main bedroom, a lovely bedroom with a vaulted and beamed ceiling. This substantial space also boasts a desk for those hoping to catch up on a little work while away, and a seating area where you can enjoy a few pages of your book before bed. A bathroom, with a bath and handheld shower, adjoins this bedroom.

Although this cottage has no private outside space, guests are welcome to sit out in the courtyard and wander the wide grounds. Head down to the picnic area for BBQs and summer lunches, then take the children and any pets down to the ponds or stream afterwards. There is a shared bowling alley for your entertainment. Trout fishing is also available. Guests are welcome to park two cars in the shared car park.
