Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life in this idyllic holiday home, surrounded by the dramatic scenery of the Tweed Valley. Sleeping four guests, the pet-friendly cottage makes a great base for couples or small families seeking a slower pace of life. Enjoy long walks through the open fields and ancient forests of the surrounding estate, or stride out to the top of Broad Law Hill for a panoramic view of the area. Slightly further afield, you can also join the long-distance Southern Upland Way or take a relaxing stroll around one of the Tweedsmuir Reservoirs. The beautiful Dawyck Botanic Garden is just 9.5 miles from the cottage, and makes a lovely afternoon out; wander through the enchanting woodland, with seasonal displays of snowdrops, bluebells, rhododendrons, and azaleas. For shopping and eating out, the pretty Borders town of Peebles is 17 miles away.

The slate and stone former stable has been transformed into a characterful holiday home, and sits alongside three similar retreats set around a quaint courtyard. Inside, the property is decorated in a traditional style with wooden furniture, cute accessories, and artwork adorning the walls. On the ground floor you’ll find a cosy lounge/diner where you can unwind with a good book or a classic film on the TV, before coming together around the antique-style dining table to share a home-cooked feast. The separate kitchen is equipped with everything needed for a successful self-catering getaway. Upstairs, two inviting bedrooms await – a double and a twin – with calming decor and plush linens for a good night’s sleep. Rounding off the accommodation is a stylish family bathroom.

An extensive working estate envelops the property, and guests are welcome to enjoy long walks through the forests and across the open fields, where local wildlife abounds. If the weather isn’t on your side, then head to the on-site, shared ten-pin bowling alley to enjoy a fun few hours with the family (available at an additional cost). Wonderful cottage that my wife and parents stayed in for our trip, the host Ralph was a lovely gentleman who was more that accommodating. The cottage itself was very comfortable and spacious. The beds were very comfortable and had all the amenities that one would need. We will be sure to return at some point in the future.
