Part of Penninghame House, this private apartment offers full access to all of the estate’s extensive grounds and gardens. Enjoy leisurely strolls from your doorstep or drive 12 miles to the Galloway Forest Park for further verdant adventures. Nestled in the heart of Dumfries and Galloway, the UK’s largest forest park features a rich tapestry of ancient woodlands, serene lochs and rolling hills, while it’s also the site of the UK’s first Dark Sky Park – a great place to stargaze. The area is also a favourite location for mountain biking, with world-renowned 7Stanes trails at Kirroughtree and Glentrool (both within 8 miles) catering to all skill levels. If golf is more your bag, book a round at Newton Stewart's 18-hole parkland course (4 miles). The nearby market town sits on the banks of the River Cree – arrange a tour of the local distillery, shop for supplies or refuel at one of its many inns and eateries.

Set on the first floor of Penninghame House’s northern annexe, this spacious property is accessed through a shared ground-level entrance. Once inside, you’ll find a contemporary kitchen with all the essentials for large-party catering. Cook up a feast then gather everyone around the dining table, which sits at one end of the large lounge/dining room. After dinner, load the dishwasher then stretch out on a choice of soft seating to discuss your next day’s adventures; a TV provides home-style entertainment when you want to unwind. As sleep-time approaches, take your pick from five thoughtfully styled bedrooms. Choose between a king-size room, two twin bedrooms and two triple bedrooms – the latter each have a sofa and their own TV so can double-up as an additional social space. A family bathroom and a shower room complete the convenience for all.

Explore the estate’s glorious grounds – featuring a variety of landscapes over its 100 acres, from woodland and forest to picturesque pastures, they give ample opportunity for cycling and walking. The River Cree borders the west of the estate – choose a peaceful spot to read at the water’s edge, and keep watch for the local wildlife, which includes otters, badgers, foxes, deer, pine martens, red kites and peregrine falcons. Parking for four cars is provided.

Our second time at Stewart apartment and it works just as well for us this time. The lounge/dining room is perfect for our group of 11 although the kitchen is too small for such a large group. ( We also felt it lacked some basic amenities we would expect such as salt and pepper. More than 2 dishwasher tablets would also be helpful). The welcome basRead moreket of scones, jam, eggs, shortbread biscuits etc is a very nice touch and all were scoffed with relish! The grounds are fabulous and the amazing weather we enjoyed this time made our stay all the better. We did have a few problems getting in to the apartment because the codes supplied by Discover Scotland were out of date and didnt work. Luckily there were estate staff on hand to help us out. All in all it is a great place to stay for a large group and we will be back again. Hide
