An enticing single-storey hideaway in an enviable position in south-west Scotland, this airy cottage makes an idyllic coastal retreat. Sleeping four guests, the two-bedroom abode at Mossyard, 5.5 miles from Gatehouse of Fleet, also welcomes pets. Bring your canine companion and head down to the dog-friendly beach, 200 metres away, to paddle in the sea, potter among the rocks and admire the small stone labyrinth. There is sometimes a sauna in the beach car park. Visit the Cairn Holy Chambered Cairns, 3.5 miles away, which date back to the fourth millennium BC. One of the two cairns is said to be the tomb of the mythical King Galdus. Venture into Gatehouse of Fleet to browse in the shops, dine out in a hostelry and visit the Mill on the Fleet, which tells the story of the town. From here, head out into splendid Galloway Forest Park, some 12.5 miles away.

Take three steps up to enter the semi-detached cottage and find yourselves in bright accommodation with an easy flow between the different rooms. At the heart of the cottage is an open-plan lounge/diner where you can unwind in comfort between your many excursions. Settle on the soft seating to lose yourselves in the astounding views through the picture windows. Lay a fire in the wood burner during the chillier months to throw a cosy glow across the room. Set up a board game, choose or book or watch a DVD or film on the Smart TV together. This room also has ample space for the four of you to gather round the wooden table for your holiday meals. The modern kitchen, which has a convenient door out onto the sun-soaked terrace, encompasses everything you need to assist you in your culinary creations. The family shower room adjoins. There is also a handy utility room where you can rinse and dry your beach and walking gear. As the sun sets over the water and you are ready to retire for the night, wander through to the bedrooms adjoining the living space. Both the double and the bunk bedroom have been finished in the same calming neutral shades as the rest of the house and are made up with high-quality, cotton linen.

Enjoy the lovely enclosed garden at every opportunity. Watch the children and pets play games on the grass as you sip a cup of fresh coffee from the machine on the wooden bench. Cook out on the BBQ and dine on the patio against the beautiful backdrop on fine days. There is bicycle storage here and parking for one car.

Meadow Cottage is an excellent flitted cottage for two or three. It is near Mossyard beaches and yet is close to the A75 for visiting surrounding places. We booked it through Discover Scotland again but have stayed in other cottages over the years. All have been reliable choices.

We had an amazing week at Meadow Cottage and have already booked another two stays for 2026. The cottage itself is cosy and warm and extremely well-equipped and comfortable - it was a joy to come back to after a walk. The lovely big windows look out onto the beach and the surrounding farmland ensured we were rewarded with a variety of bird life. ThRead moree beach is a quick walk away and a short drive takes you to forest walks and lovely villages. There are good amenities all around. There was a welcome package of cheese, pickle and bread in the cottage which was a lovely touch and there is a lovely Little Farm Shop just up from the cottage which stocks gorgeous meats, condiments, as well as sweet and savoury pastries. All-in-all we couldnt recommend Meadow Cottage highly enough. We were thrilled with our stay and cant wait to return next year. Hide

Nicely fitted out cottage with all the extras you might need. Good views of the sea and not far from the Mossyard beaches.. Also close to the main road with access East and West to the main towns of Dumfries and Galloway. Very friendly staff sorting out the odd problem quickly. Nice welcome pack.

Our Only gripe is the cattle feeder position Ed just few yards from the house-Threaby cottage is more affected by the noticeable cattle smell that pervades the front of the cottages - could be sorted relatively easily farmer wanted

Meadow Cottage and Mossyard, are the ideal base to make the most of D&G. The cottage is well equipped and always exceptionally clean and well presented.

Meadow Cottage at Mossyard was an excellent base from which to explore the area. The cottage is in a lovely spot overlooking the sea, and is very well thought through - everything catered for and nothing left to chance. I can recommend it and I will be back again.

One of my best holidays I have ever had especially as I spent most of my school days staying in Meadow Cottage once known as Mossyard Cottage 2.. It brought back great memories of my young days running around the farm and shore. The inside of the cottage was out of this world. Pity the original front door being replaced with a window. I will ceRead morertainly be looking to be back next year but maybe stay in a chalet. I congratulate everyone who made my holiday as I thought it would be. Thank you. Hide
