One of the two cairns is said to be the tomb of the mythical King Galdus. Venture into Gatehouse of Fleet to browse in the shops, dine out in a hostelry and visit the Mill on the Fleet, which tells the story of the town. From here, head out into splendid Galloway Forest Park, some 12.5 miles away.
