The Drovers Cabin

With stunning views over the surrounding Galloway landscape and only the local wildlife and livestock in the adjacent fields for neighbours, peace and tranquillity are guaranteed at this quirky rural bolthole. Set in a remote location, this scenic spot offers excellent opportunities for walking and cycling beginning from the doorstep. Located on the heritage coastline of the Solway Firth, the quaint village of Dundrennan, 2 miles away, is home to Dundrennan Abbey, a ruined Cistercian abbey brimming with history and offering some lovely grounds to explore. The Artists' town of Kirkcudbright, 8 miles away, boasts many interesting independent shops and art galleries hidden along its narrow closes. For the more adventurous, the Galloway Activity Centre on Loch Ken offers plenty of fantastic water-based activities. A traditional bucket and spade day can be enjoyed at the sandy beaches at The Dhoon, Brighouse Bay and Sandgreen, all reached within 18 miles.

This former Drovers Cabin has retained many of its original features and enjoys stunning views over the surrounding Galloway landscape. This unique, traditional cabin offers basic yet spacious and comfortable accommodation away from busy everyday life. There is no electricity, Wi-Fi or TV and lighting is supplied by battery torches or firelight. Kick off your walking boots in the entrance hallway before leading the way into the country cottage-style kitchen/diner to cook a hot meal after a hard day spent exploring. Bottled gas ensures that there is a plentiful supply of hot water for soothing weary walking muscles in the contemporary bathroom. The open fire, combined with antique-style touches, creates a wonderfully homely ambience in the lounge, with an additional wood burner in the hallway ensuring that the cabin is warm and cosy during those chillier evenings. The hallway also leads to two bedrooms, a double and a twin, which both promise a peaceful rest.

Beautiful wildlife and breathtaking landscapes surround the cabin. You can relax on the spacious gravelled area and enjoy this tranquil setting with outstanding views and sunsets; keep your eye peeled to spot the varied bird life. Outside, you’ll also find private parking for two cars.

• The cabin is on a private water supply, which is fine for cooking and washing – bottled water is provided for drinking
• The cabin is accessed via a 2-mile rough, but well-maintained farm track – it is not suitable for motor homes or vehicles with a low suspension
