Located on one of Scotland's most attractive stretches of coastline, this charming coastal escape makes a wonderful base for a family holiday, with direct access to a safe, sandy beach and easy coastal walks. Follow paths through mixed woodlands and wildflower meadows to Kippford (3.5 miles), a busy sailing and water sports centre, where you’ll also find a local shop and two pubs that serve food. In the other direction, the path follows the shoreline to Castle Point (1.5 miles) for panoramic views over the Solway towards Cumbria. At low tide, you can walk to Rough Island, a National Trust for Scotland bird sanctuary. In addition to walking and mountain biking, there are all kinds of outdoor activities available locally, including sailing, kayaking, horse riding, fishing and golf. History lovers will want to explore Sweetheart Abbey (14.5 miles), or Threave Castle (14 miles), an island fortress reachable only by boat.

From the parking area, follow the gravelled path and take three steps up to the front door. At the end of the hallway, on your right, is the open-plan living space. Featuring wooden floors, pale walls and comfortable furnishings, this is a welcoming spot in which to relax after a day in the fresh air, with underfloor heating and a wood burner to keep you warm whatever the time of year. In the centre of the room is a sociable, farmhouse-style dining table, while at the far end, there’s a traditional wooden dresser and a practical kitchen, the latter including everything the cook will need to prepare delicious holiday meals. When you feel sleepy, discover three restful bedrooms – a king-size and two twins (one of which has a step from the hallway) – each decorated in soft colours and pretty patterns. They share a bathroom with a shower over the bath, which is also home to the washing machine. A handy, separate WC completes the interior.

The outside space is delightful. A small, covered seating area leads off the kitchen, while the garden itself includes several large areas of lawn surrounded by mature trees and shrubs – perfect for children to play as adults watch from the sun loungers. Storage for bikes is provided, and a bonus of this lovely getaway is private parking.

Lovely cottage with everything you could need, in a beautiful location. Friendly and helpful hosts if you need anything, though otherwise they leave us to it. Weve stayed in a few cottages in Rockcliffe, and this is our firm favourite. Its a fantastic, family friendly area with lots of activities nearby, beautiful walks and lovely beaches.

Lovely house in great setting for young family: sea, rock pools, coastal walks very close. The garden has plenty of grass for children to play and is attractive and quiet( with garden furniture) for everyone else. The covered area at the back of the house is very pleasant for being outside if it's hot.....or wet! The House was well equipped, cleanRead more and comfortable with many books. Internet TV wasn't available when we were there, but main channels were. Theo and Julian ( owners, next door) were very kind and helpful. Hide

Seabank Cottage was comfortable and well appointed. Julian and Theo are helpful hosts, on hand when we had queries. The is plenty to do within easy reach -Dumfries where we would recommend the Camera Obscura on a clear day, and the museum which it is part of; Kirkcudbright for art lovers, and Threave Gardens. The coastal path has lovely views ouRead moret over the estuary. The long drive up the track to Bainloch Deer Park's cafe at Sandyhills is worth it for the views of deer while you have your meal.
