  • Gaze out over the sandy cove to the sea and Dumfries and Galloway’s rolling green hills
  • Gather in front of the crackling wood burner to play games and tell each other stories
Property code: OC-D585839

A delightful semi-detached retreat on the southern edge of Dumfries and Galloway, this tranquil hideaway is nestled in the secluded hamlet of Rockcliffe. Sleeping seven guests, the four-bedroom cottage is perfect for a family break or two couples away together in Scotland. Step out from the cottage to paddle in the sea and potter in rockpools. Stroll just over 1 mile over the hills and through beautiful woodland and wildflower meadows to Kippford, where you can pause for afternoon tea. Pass the Motte of Mark, where a fort was sited in the Middle Ages, along the way. Follow a longer footpath to Sandyhills Beach, 4.5 miles away, which is popular for swimming. Dalbeattie, known as the “granite town” because of its quarries, is 7 miles away. Here you can shop, dine out and visit beautiful Plantain Loch and Dalbeattie Forest Town Wood, with its enchanting views and mountain biking trails.

Head inside via the sun porch, where you can discard your beach bags, shoes and walking wear. From the reception hall, amble into the lounge. Take a seat beside the lovely bay window to absorb the views or settle down on the sofa in front of the Smart TV. Light the wood burner in here on chilly evenings. The lounge/kitchen/diner is another great social space. Here, friends and family can sit on another sofa or at the table and chat to the chef as they whip up the next meal. Open the door to the garden on sunny days. Take one step up to find the utility room. One of your family shower rooms is beyond. You also have a separate dining room for your celebratory meals. Carefully climb the steep, cottage-style stairs to the half-landing, where the bunk bedroom, which is suitable for adults as well as children, and the family bathroom are positioned. Head on up to the first floor to the super-king-size, king-size and single bedrooms. Another family shower room is at this level too.

Carry your morning coffee out to the seating area to the front of the cottage on fine days. Sip it as you look out to sea. To the rear, there is a shared lawned garden with outdoor furniture and a BBQ. Grill supper out here as the sun begins to set. The gardens are not enclosed. Guests can park at the cottage.

  • 4 bedrooms – 1 super-king-size, 1 king-size, 1 bunk bedroom, 1 single
  • 3 bathrooms – 2 family shower rooms, with WCs, and 1 family bathroom with shower over the bath and WC
  • Electric oven, induction hob, microwave, fridge, freezer and dishwasher
  • Washing machine
  • Travel cot and highchair
  • Wood burner (first basket of logs supplied)
  • Smart TV, DVD player
  • Lawn and gravel seating area to the front, plus shared lawned garden, with outdoor furniture and BBQ, to the rear
  • Private parking
  • Shop 1.5 miles, pub 2.5 miles, beach 20 metres
  • Storage for bikes

Monro is a fab family house with the sea to the front and forest behind . The only criticism I would make it the gardens are neglected. Long uncut grass and weeds everywhere. Side gate taken off so no enclosed garden which when you have children and dogs is important .

A very well located seaside holiday cottage a stones throw from the sea in a quiet village at the end of a dead end ! The accommodation is well laid out and has all the equipment to make your stay comfortable. Parking for 2 but a tight entrance. Although shared garden ideal for well behaved dogs. A working pedestrian gate and wider drive gate wouldRead more be an advantage. Garden large but slightly overgrown and shrubs need cutting on sea shore to maintain fab views. Garden could easily be sub divided. Great walks from doorstep to beach or forest. Only negative is that if next door cottage under same ownership Albany has 2 cars they park in front of Munroe spoiling views. This could be resolved by Albany sorting 2 car spaces in their drive. Weve booked again so that sums up our review! Thanks. Hide

Lovely cottage in an excellent location. Could be doing with some tlc inside and out, grass could be cut prior to guests arriving, we could not play bowls as we could not see the balls! The back garden is shared which became a bit problematic as the week progressed as our neighbours obviously thought what was ours was theirs as well!! this caused Read morea few problems...... not what you expect when spending 1500 for a week. I am not sure if it states that the back garden is shared with the ajoining cottage but not ideal if you have kids or a dog. Other than that an excellent week the cottage is more than well equipped and an absolute fab location. Hide

Munro cottage is set in a perfect location overlooking Rockcliffe. The property was immaculate, it was a pleasure to find such a clean, well equipped, uncluttered kitchen. We found the beds really comfy and the bedding pristine. Well done to the people who do the cleaning and making up!
