Situated close to some of Scotland’s finest lochs for freshwater fishing, this rustic holiday home is a fabulous destination for those hoping to get the very best out of the surrounding area. The property comes with a designated fishing permit for nearby Loch Ken (4 miles), perfect for water sports, wild swimming and peaceful nature trails. Look out for swooping red kites in the sky above as you move around the loch or venture out late at night and take advantage of the area’s Dark Sky Reserve status. The borders of Galloway Forest Park sit right on your doorstep, with direct footpaths leading into the forest scenery from the property. Discover Raider’s Road (5 miles), a 10-mile forest driving route that can be enjoyed by walkers, cyclists, horse riders or those who prefer to admire the scenery from the comfort of the car.

Lovingly maintained with a traditional feel, the decor and atmosphere of this two-storey house have been kept rustic throughout, complete with original design features. Make your way inside to find the functional kitchen/diner, a farmhouse-style space with an authentic AGA cooker and a breakfast table ready to host all three meals of the day. Next to it, a utility room adds convenience with laundry facilities and space to store suitcases or outdoor gear. Also on this floor, the lounge is a restful haven complete with overflowing bookshelves, cushy sofas and a delightful wood burner, the perfect setting for unwinding with the TV on and your feet up. A downstairs WC can be found along the hallway, as can a cosy twin bedroom with wonderful countryside views. Move upstairs to find the two remaining bedrooms: a delightful double and an attractive twin. All three bedrooms share use of the family bathroom.

Excellent cottage for peace and quiet, all you can hear are the birds and insects buzzing. Great place for spotting wildlife. The only drawback was the access track in a family car, but it's fine you just need to add 10 mins on to journey times to account for that. Hosts were really good and made some very good recommendations for things to do.

I have lost count of the number of times I have stayed at Airie , if you like solitude and not being able to see another house then this is the place , walks straight from your door and fishing , needles to say we will be back. All of my stays at Airie have been booked via Discover Scotland who are always a pleasure to deal with.

Lovely cottage, well stocked with kitchen, surrounded by fields and forest and a lovely view of the Loch. Lots of wildlife to see every day it was very peaceful and we felt totally relaxed once we got there. Our dog loved running around the garden we struggled to get her in. I would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for the track up to the cottage wRead morehich was rougher than expected and also the directions to the cottage the postcode sent us to a completely different cottage, thanks to the owners Emma and Jamie who gave us directions but then we went passed the cottage as the only sign said footpath so we thought there was a different way in so we had to reverse back down the track as there isn't any turning points. A little stressful which could easily be rectified with an entrance sign on the gate maybe? Apart from that a wonderful holiday not a far drive from local towns or you could just stay in the cottage plenty of walks from the door. Hide
