Situated on the coast between Kippford and Rockcliffe, this wonderful holiday home offers a classic seaside escape for up to six guests and their four-legged companions. Renowned for its natural beauty, South West Scotland is an exceptional destination for hiking, mountain biking, boat trips, water sports, and more. Kippford, a popular seaside hub just 0.5 miles away, can be reached via the picturesque Jubilee Path. It’s home to yacht moorings, sailing centres, and a lively calendar of water-based events and regattas. For those who prefer to stay on dry land, golf enthusiasts are well catered for, with courses at Craigieknowes (1.5 miles), Colvend (4.5 miles) and Dalbeattie (5.5 miles) nearby. Dalbeattie is also a fantastic base for exploring the surrounding forest, offering scenic walking trails and the renowned 7Stanes mountain biking routes.

Wherever your adventures take you, this traditional country cottage provides a warm and welcoming retreat to return to each evening. Spacious and thoughtfully arranged over two storeys, the property is decorated in a timeless style with plenty of homely touches throughout. The ground floor offers a choice of inviting living spaces. One lounge features comfortable seating, an open fire, and a TV/DVD, while a second lounge provides additional seating, a wood burner, and another TV/DVD – ideal for groups with different viewing preferences. This second space also doubles as a dining room, with a table set for six. The farmhouse-style kitchen offers everything needed for preparing meals, complete with ample workspace and an additional dining area for relaxed breakfasts and informal dining. A utility room with laundry facilities and a family bathroom complete the ground floor. Upstairs, three well-appointed bedrooms provide a peaceful place to rest. One double and one twin bedroom each benefit from their own en-suite bathroom, while a further twin room completes the sleeping accommodation.

Step outside into the large, private garden – an enclosed space surrounded by woodland and offering beautiful views across the Urr Estuary. Mature planting, including rhododendrons and azaleas, creates a picturesque setting, while outdoor furniture invites you to relax and dine alfresco. Private parking is also available.

We enjoyed two wonderful weeks at Craigrathan - relaxing and restorative, in a very comfortable and spacious house, which felt like the home that it is. It is a perfect base to explore the area and we loved being able to potter down to the shore and shell beach, along to the Kippford pubs for lunch and a visit to the annual art exhibition. The house was even better than the photos, very spacious, comfortable, and full of character. The location was perfect, with walking routes literally on the doorstep and a beautiful forest right behind the property. The views from Mark Hill were stunning, We especially loved the garden, which is surrounded by gorgeous trees and was wonderfully peacRead moreeful. Lovely house beautiful gardens, both my wife and I enjoyed the two weeks stay. The dogs enjoyed themselves in the grounds and on the beach. We have visited Kippford for many years and enjoyed the walks, this time we had good weather and was able to just relax in the beautiful gardens.we just keep our fingers crossed for us to return next year..

We loved the house itself, spacious and homely, light, interesting art on the walls, very comfy beds, clean, with good private garden space, and the location was exquisite. However, although the housekeeper did her very best to remedy our problems, even getting in help, the TVs did not work properly, (are being replaced) and the central heating wasRead more digitally controlled only by the owner, so unless you knew how to get into the system and alter things (luckily I did), you had no way of boosting or reducing the heating or hot water. We felt there could have been a bit more kindness shown in things left for guest use, like no shower gel, kitchen hand soap or dish cloth! I recently stayed somewhere the owner left all sorts of goodies for guests, and it really made me want to return and recommend the spot! However, that being said, this is a phenomenal location, with the shell beach so close, a superb huge pine tree in the garden, and the characterful house is very lovable! We would return. Hide

Craigrathan is a beautifully furnished and in an idyllic location. It's very comfortable. The kitchen is very well equipped with plenty of everything you need. The two large lounges provide mean that evryone can get together, or you can find peace and quiet in one lounge while everyone else is in the other.

Craigrathan is a comfortable, lived-in house in which it is easy to feel at home, from sitting in the bay window looking out at the glorious trees to a quick round of the Jubilee Path with the dog. It's wonderful to be so close to the water too.

Wonderful home from home. Views amazing and the property was lovely. Full of interesting books, antiques and furniture along with every modern requirement for a restful stay. It was a perfect week completed by 3 deer wandering across the property on our last day ! We will be going back soon.

Beautiful position, lovely old house, but getting a bit tired i.e. in need of new comfortable chair seat cushions, upholstery cleaning and either new modern mattresses, or some good quality 'toppers'.
